Hello everyone,
I hope that this is the appropriate sub-forum for this question. I am interested in recreational hypnosis, specifically an immersive sensory experience with as much realism as possible. A maximally realistic daydream. Full sensory engagement would be the ideal, but at a minimum I'd like clear, vivid visualizations (I'm generally not a great visualizer). I'm hoping to experience favorite moments from video games and movies, or at least picture them more vividly than I currently am able to.
Googling around for this seems to produce almost entirely services promising erotic hypnosis. I assume that techniques used to do this would also work for more varied experiences, but I have no way of evaluating how honestly the descriptions of these services are. Nor can I evaluate how able the sellers would be to help me with themes outside of their... specialty.
More concisely, my questions are:
1. Is this kind of visual/full sensory daydreaming an attainable goal?
2. If so, what degree of success might I be able to expect?
3. Is this a skill that I could develop on my own, or would I need professional assistance?
4. What could I do to develop this skill on my own, and what descriptions would be useful to a professional in understanding what I want? |

You may be able to do this on your own but you will probably take a long time getting to the good meaty bits. I would suggest you find a Hypnotist close to your area and just explain what it is you are after. Just like you explained it here. The Hypnotist would be like a guide to assist you along the path. Going it alone without a guide will probably prove to be frustrating. The Hypnotist should be willing to work with you, not only for the fee but also for the experience, as this is something that is not often requested. Good luck with your adventures. |

It sounds to me like you want a particular kind of hypnotic experience. The best way to learn new experiences is to do it with a practitioner, because then it will be a shared experience. Yes, it is very possible to do the thing you are requesting, and in fact is only a slight variation on a very major aspect of hypnosis. Such experiences can be very relaxing and therapeutic. Trying to learn it alone can be frustrating, because you have to be both the therapist and client. Also, by seeing a therapist to guide you on your journey, you can gain an evolved understanding of what it is you are wishing to do. Because, this is in fact your answer and task, to gain a deeper understanding of what it is to visualise in a deeper way that seems perfectly real. You never, however, want to hypnotise yourself to forget what you are doing completely, and lose touch with reality completely.
So, your learning is to do self hypnosis that involves deep and rich visualisation and to learn how to do it. There is no step by step approach, although a good hypnotherapist will give you that initially, until you feel more confident. Then you will realise you have been doing it from time to time all of your life. |

Thank you both for your replies. I'm sorry I haven't been able to reply myself until now.
My next question is, do you have any advice on finding a hypnotherapist to assist me with this? I had a modestly bad experience with a hypnotherapist in the past (nothing shocking, she just talked a lot about herself and her experiences rather than focusing on what I had asked for during sessions) and am hesitant to try another as my budget is currently tight.
I this something that I might be able to work on with a hypnotherapist over the internet, by Skype or something like that? Or is in-person the way to go? How can I feel out if a given hypnotherapist might be a good fit beyond a "sales pitch" sort of response to my query before paying for a session? |

That is a good question.
In Australia, therapists are usually registered with relevant peak Associations. I would do my research regarding such associations, as well as their standing, and look at the therapists registered with them. I would also suggest you see someone in person, I am not convinced that Skype is ever going to be as good as being there face-to-face.
If you ring someone and they are giving you a sales pitch, then I would move on. Speak to them, tell them what you want and find someone that sounds like they have integrity. You might have to use your gut feeling. Unfortunately, an amazing therapist to one person just might not be your cup of tea, so you have to bear that in mind.
Regards,
Jeremy |
