Hi, I'm new so I hope I've posted in the right place. 
I have a Paul Mckenna Book & CD. Before the introduction, in the first pages is states
Warning: Do not listen to the cd.....if you suffer from Clinical Depression
Does anyone have any expert opinions on why this is there?
I have tried to email his customer support but I haven't received an answer yet.

Yes, I have an opinion. I could be more concise if I new the topic and content of the CD.
If there are suggestions regarding past memories, happy feelings, self-worth, self-confidence, etc., they can contradict negative behavioral beliefs in a way that can create significant emotional disruption.
The warning helps protect them from liability. |

Hi
The Message is there in the book for good house keeping, because its a CD and not a live practitioner, then they could be a very very tiny number of people who get stuck in some negative memory- yet the CD and the language and the suggestions- in Paul's CDs constructed with a lot of care and attention to detail- in the way suggestions are used- another point is would be the publishing house that would have added the warning- and it would be done just to make sure- that everything is kept- and that the well being of any potential user- is taken care off- so its also a ethical thing to do.

Thank you for your input. The cd was accompanying the book "Change your life in 7 days" But it is also in other books with cds and cds alone being sold by other authors.
I understand there are suggestions on these cds, to believe in yourself, self-worth, self-confidence etc.. this is what I would have expected. Similar to affirmations I suppose. I thought that the cd itself is there to change/contradict ones negative beliefs.
Could you explain more about your statement please that "...in a way that can create significant emotional disruption"

Suggestions are made to counter/work against currently held thoughts and beliefs. If the thoughts and beliefs are strong enough, they will reject the suggestions. And, in some cases reject them in a way that can create emotional responses called 'abreactions'. Would be similar to a PTSD victim being triggered to re-live the emotionally traumatic event.

Abreactions can also be triggered by the removal of a coping mechanism.. such as smoking, food habits, etc..

Ok "Stuck in a negative memory" sometimes people have been through some really rough times in life- and sometimes people can get caught up in a particular memory- for a short time- when listening to such CDs- the CDs can not tell if a person is going along with the ideas and flow, or if the person is dwelling on an experience, that would best be dealt with a living practitioner, Paul uses Ericksonian hypnosis / indirect hypnosis and is very good at it as well, having modeled the way Paul uses hypnosis with his CDs I am very aware of the structure of the way in which his Cds work. Because of the careful way in which the Cds have been produced- then there would only be a very very small chance if any that his suggestions would lead to an abreaction- (anything negative)
Paul's Cds books etc are some of the very best hypnosis and personal development tools available in the personal development market- solid down to earth- practical and user friendly.

| Thanks Patrick, I'll look into that. Would I be aware of these abreactions in myself when listening to the cd? And If I did listen to a cd and if it brought up some negative memories for me that I was aware of, should I just stop using them? Maybe then contact a professional instead. Otherwise if I wasn't aware of anything then it should be ok for me to continue? |

A person is generally aware if they are having an abreaction. If you listen and find it is hard/difficult to accept the suggestions, it 'could' signify currently held behaviors that would benefit form a one on one session.. if it is minor.. might listen for another week or so and see if it sorts itself out...

Can someone please tell me why self hypnosis cd always say " let your mind wander"
I think this is a flaw because as soon as I hear this mind is all over the place, it completely ruins what otherwise would be a beneficial cd |

| To help reduce the chance that an analytical thinker will focus too much analytical effort an making sure they stay focused. Self-hypno cd's need to be vague and one-size-fits-all in order to increase the number of people that the cd will work for. This also works against the effectiveness of the cd. |
