Hi, I've been looking into self hypnosis for quite some time, and I've just recently started taking steps in changing my life with it. I just turned 30 this year, and it is very depressing when I look back on my life, and realize that I am in the same position that I was in when I was 18. I've had so many ambitions, yet lack the motivation, and dedication to realize those ambitions. Procrastination has always been my biggest problem. I've basically procrastinated my life away. "I'll do it tomorrow," I always say. I've had to misfortune of waiting till tomorrow, and realizing that tomorrow was too late in many instances. I've even gotten to the point where my lack of motivation and procrastination, left me homeless, jobless, and penniless; having to choose between putting gas in my jalopy, or food in my stomach. One would think that being in such a position would make a person realize their own mortality, and the importance being a responsible adult, and getting ones life to a place where such catastrophes are not so imminent. I'm just thankful that the binds that I have been in, (99% have been of my own device, ) I've been able to recover from. I had come to the realization long ago, that I was ready to get on with my life, but something inside of me, prevented me for taking the steps necessary to move on. Lets just say that I no longer have the choice of sitting back and hoping someday, something inside of my will click, and I'll be able to move forward. It's no longer just about me. My poor choices have negatively affected other peoples lives, and I have to get my life together in order to fix what I have done, otherwise, the consequences will be dire. I could go into detail, about my current situation, and all of the reasons, and roots I believe to be the cause of the current state of my life, but I've already yammered on for far too long. I have the prerequisite for self hypnosis to work... I honestly believe that it will work for me. My main issues are confidence, articulation, and the organization of thoughts to speak fluidly, self esteem, PROCRASTINATION, self-motivation, insomnia, chewing tobacco, and general messiness. I though it would be a good idea to start with the three big ones, procrastination, self-motivation, and goal realization. Those, at least for me, are the real life changers. I believe that getting those issues sorted out will not only turn my life around, but will also give me motivation to tackle the other issues, due to the success that I have achieved. For some of my issues, I took scripts from Richard Macenzie's "Self Change Hypnosis," and Forbes Robbins Blair's "Instant Self Hypnosis," because the scripts pretty much addressed all aspects of my problems "as is." For other issues, I wrote custom scripts, because there were some personal issues within the issues that needed be addressed, and the canned scripts didn't quite cut it. I've been researching certain hypnosis techniques, more specifically "stereo confusion," and "Subliminal messaging, and been working with Audacity, to incorporate those techniques. The way I understand Hypnosis is that the conscience mind needs to be circumvented, due to it's critical nature, to get through to the impressionable sub conscience mind. Inductions, and deepeners are used to quiet the conscience mind into trance, so that only the sub conscience is "listening." Since the purpose it to get past the conscience mind, and if your suggestion includes both "stereo confusion," and "subliminal messaging." Is there a need for an induction, and deepening?" If used in conjunction, would the two strengthen the suggestion? Also are there any other techniques that can be incorporated into the suggestion to make it more effective? I am extremely open to hear of any suggestions, software, or other web resources that make my self-change project more effective. Thank you for taking the time to read this. |

My guess is that supposedly "subliminals" and "stereo confusion" are both supposed to bypass the conscious mind. If you want to add inductions and deepeners - that is up to you. |

Have you had any success with either or both techniques? |

ejg700,
When I work with clients, we (almost) always address self-confidence first. Doing this will make working with the other issues go more smoothly and increase the chance of success. I use stereo confusion on a couple of my self-hypnosis audios because it works for SOME people. I also use about 12 other techniques in combination with different inductions and deepeners. The point being, no single method will work as well for everyone. Same w/ subliminal. It helps some people but not many in my experience.
Ideally, you would want to use different methods until you found what works best for you. That could take some time. Backup plan would be to combine all the methods you are able to. Incorporating an induction (Elman preferably) with deepeners is just good practice.
That being said - suggestion hypnosis is limited in effectiveness by the relative 'strength' of the behavior you are working 'against'. The behaviors you are working to change sound fairly well established. I think you would have better/quicker/more reliable results by first working with a 'good' hypnotist to address the current behaviors and then applying suggestions/self-hypnosis to sustain and improve the desired change.
This is my opinion and you know what they say about those.... My opinion is based on over 1,500 one-on-one sessions and being one of only two hypnotists I know of that actually track and quantify their client results.
