Hi everyone, I did a search for this topic before posting, but didn't see anything relevant to my question, so I'm posting this. My first time on this site, so I apologize, in advance, if this is somewhere I'm not aware of.
I recently read a book on self hypnosis by Dr Charles Henderson, and began to experiment with self hypnosis myself. I have had some good results I would say, and have been wanting to get more involved with it. One thing, however, which I am confused about are the needs and motivations of the subconscious. Dr Henderson briefly touched upon these in his book, but never fully explained them, in my opinion.
Specifically, what I would be interested in learning is how suggestion should be "fine tuned" to work with the needs and motivations of the subconscious. From what I understand, the needs of the subconscious are protection, preservation, and procreation. While the motivations of the subconscious are identity, security, and stimulation.
I'm working with suggestion, formulating my own, in order to try to work with some negative beliefs I have, and I'm curious if there is a certain way I should be "tweaking" suggestions so they either work more efficiently or don't come against as much or any resistance from my subconscious.
I hope I'm stating this clearly enough, I fear I may not be, but I hope you get the general idea of why I'm creating this post. Any replies that will either help me understand the subject more clearly or correct my misperceptions if I have any would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

I think your question is more complex than that book made it sound. There will be some basic needs and motivations, but above that are the needs and motivations YOUR mind has based on it's unique life experience.
That's where self-hypnosis has a limit. It is difficult for ANYONE to do accurate self-analysis to formulate more complex self-hyp scripts. I'm told I'm a fairly accomplished hypnotist in my young career, but I go to someone else when I need work on myself.
I will email you a link to the self-hypnosis mp3 my clients use for you to compare.
They use these audios only after an in-depth office session w/ advanced techniques..

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for you reply. When you say you think it's impossible for anyone to do accurate self-analysis, are you also including the concept of autoquestioning? I have used autoquestioning, and I believe I've gained some major insights into my reasons for doing things or not doing things that I wish to do.
At any rate, I'd appreciate the email with more information.
Thank you. |

Hi,
Personally I think auto-questioning will have a higher rate of error compared to using a qualified human. I've gained insight/progress working with myself, but it has been more consistently accurate/effective getting a truly objective outside perspective. As well as info I don't think I would have gotten on my own.
Just my view on it. But, you know.. chocolate and vanilla. What works for me isn't the only way :)
You should have received the email. If not, give me a holler.

They say that the needs and motivations of the sub-conscious is to protect you.
So, you could start by asking your self conscious to provide you an answer to what it is protecting you from in this particular situation.
I always like to put as little pressure on my sub-conscious as possible, so I always add the clause "let me know the answer to my question at the appropriate time".
You'll either get your answer right away or at the right time, assuming you asked the question correctly.
I hope this helps. |
