| Hi, I'm curious about hypnosis because I've heard it's beneficial in treating things like panic attacks & social phobias, etc. A friend of mine underwent hypnosis, but her account of what happened was completely different than what I've read about it. I know there are different stages of hypnosis, where you can be in a sleep like state, and where it's as if you are "awake". How is hypnosis induced? Somna-ambulistic hypnosis. She had no recollection of anything. Things from her childhood were brought up, etc. Dreams from her childhood were brought up, etc...memories from childhood. She would have never known if she hadn't been told of hypnosis, and the quoting from her childhood, and dreams she had as a kid. It's truly, crazy, the possibilities with hypnosis. It's scary. Was she in deep hypnosis or something? |

Hypnotherapy is very beneficial in helping people with panic attacks and and phobias. Your friend sounds as if she may have been in a somnombulistic stage of hypnosis, which is the deepest stage of hypnosis or in a very relaxed medium stage. Very few people attain the somnombulistic stage and in some cases, may not remember what took place. The hypnotist(I assume) was using a technique called age regression with revivification, which was why your friend was acting out scenes from her past. Since I was not there I cannot tell you much more. Everyone is different in how they react to hypnosis and how well they accepted the suggestions from the hypnotherapist. I hope her session was successful. |

I agree with bob, it sounds much like the sonambulistic state.
I have hypnotized no more than 3 different persons yet, but 2 of them went into a sonambulistic state. They had no memory of the trance, unless you actually told "reminded" them. I also came across another interesting thing, one of the subjects, being a family member, had recollection of a memory in which I was included. He couldn't remember the context, but he remembered me. |

| While the others may choose to diagnose from a distance, I am not so brave. We each react to hypnosis differently, and many who are in a light trance only, but believe that they shouldn't remember anything, do exactly that. I would only comment if able to test that person myself. Since it is not a matter of life or death, why hassard a guess at something so trivial? For all we know, they could have been asleep..... |

| when I say re-enacted, ... for instance: She was told she was like jumping on the bed, etc. Plus all kinds of other things, it's unbelievable, lots of stuff from childhood too, etc. Can they like show you visual things, and then have you like re-enact such things. I have heard that. I know they can tell you to do something, and you will do it. I've heard that, while under hypnosis, they can tell you like: at this time tomorrow (specific time), you are going to do THIS (specific act/etc.....do the dishes, start cleaning, etc). You won't know it's from you having been in a trance. I've studied this stuff, and it's absolutely, unbelievable. It's .. SCARY~! |

It is not black magic, it is not voodoo, it is just hypnosis. People will remember everything that happens under hypnosis unless they are specifically told not to recall.
People will not do anything that they wouldn't do while not hypnotized. Someone turning into a zombie at a specific time and date and then having them set about to kill someone because they were programmed to do this while hypnotized is only stuff from movies.
You should not consider reading stories about Hypnosis on the Internet as studying. There is a lot of misinformation about hypnosis online and you (as I am sure you know) cannot believe everything you read and even less of what you hear.
If you do a search in this forum on "depth of trance" you will find some very interesting conversations about this subject. If you have more questions about depth of trance you may wish to add them to those conversations once you have read them over; instead of starting a new conversation about it here.
