My husband snores and so for the past six years we have slept in separate bedrooms. He hates being woken up by me pushing him on his side. He feels the problem is that I'm a light sleeper and I should go to a hypnotist to learn to sleep deeper.
I was under the impression that everyone has their own sleep patterns and they are pretty hard to ever change. Do you feel hypnotism could make it possible for me to fall asleep with him snoring and then to stay asleep through his snoring (keeping in mind that I have two children under the age of 5 that I have to keep an ear out for)?
Thanks, Jo |

Wow, are you growing fluff on you so that more dirt comes off when your husband wipes his feet on you? Hypnosis can change sleeping patterns, but with kids who may need you in the night, you are alert for a reason, one more important than you husbands wish not to be bothered. Tell the selfish bugger to see his doctor, and meantime tie a scarf around his head and jaw, to stop the snoring. Medical attention is much cheaper than the cost of a hypnotist, and no responsible hypnotist who has kids would help your husband put then in danger for his comfort. Sound Nasty? it is, I have ten grandchildren and they are the joy of my life. No way would I allow my sons to do this. If your husband is scared of the treatment, tell him it is virtually painless. |

Thank you and I feel the way you do. Trust me, he isn't going to wiping his feet anywhere near me. I think it would be much easier to cure his snoring than my sleeping.
At least I know I'm not the crazy one here.

Hi Jo
Anthony is quite correct. His snoring could be a variety of medical reasons, from sinus blockage, to obesity, to sleep apnea, and many more. He needs to see an MD to seek help or treatment for this and to quit being selfish and disregarding the safety of your children if you should not be able to hear them in case of an emergency. If he refuses to seek help, you have my sympathy, and separate bedrooms, unfortunately, may be the answer. In my book, the children are the number one priority. You shouldn't have to change your sleep patterns just to satisfy his selfishness. |

Some of those answers to this woman's sleep problems were a bit inflammatory. What do we really know about her or her husband? Perhaps he is overweight and therefore has sleep apnea? Yes they should consult a physician, but perhaps hypnosis/weight loss might be in order. Let's not be so quick to judge based on a paragraph. Just one person's take on this. Well Bob, I must tell you, there are many just like you in this world, nice folk who have no wish to stir the pot or create a problem, so they serve up pap to the poster. Some of these are my friends, and I see them filling a place I choose not to go, so we remain friends respecting the other based on knowledge of the differences... I never serve pap, it isn't in me to give less than I have to give, and when my opinion is asked, I would consider it rude to avoid the unpleasant, just because it was unpleasant, and in doing so fail the poster, just as I would feel if I failed a client. When someone comes to me for help, I do all I can, using my knowledge, skill, and experience, all in the service of the client. I do no less here, and the day I find only pap is acceptable, I quit, and start charging for my help (G)..... |

I side with Anthony, Some may find his style at times a bit off-putting,But he knows what he talks about. Those with a subconscious fear of criticism want everything to be couched in the gentlest tone. Would you rather have a polite, supercilious, know-it-all who lacked real knowledge gained from long experience? Confrontation and potency are traits of an effective therapist! |

It sounds like Jo really wanted affirmation that perhaps was being unreasonable. While it's not good to judge someone without the full details i couldn't ever imagine telling my husband to sleep somewhere else, or him telling me that. We work as a team in helping one another with life. If Jo husband isn't the sharing kind, i find it unlike that he will go to a hypnotist or a doctor. He sees the problem has hers and not his, when it should be theirs. Tina |
