Hi frank,
A little pattern for you, think about forgetting something that you want to remember, now remember to forget, that you have forgot something again, yet remembering to remember to forget that you forgot to forget, that which is not so easy to remember any more, yet knowing that to forget, to remember, in the meantime, not sure what, that was, is to remember how to forget to remember, with out knowing how, you did, did you not?
think about the thing you want to forget, and play with that pattren, and you will forget just what you need, and remember just what is useful.

A suggestion that I use and find helpful is:
"simply remember to forget, or forget to remember"
I forget where I picked this one up, but I find that it works very well. |

A suggestion that I use and find helpful is: "simply remember to forget, or forget to remember"
In my opinion, all things being equal, it would always be far more efficacious to say: "simply remembering to forget, and forgetting to remember".
In the majority of clinical circumstances, with the majority of clients, in the majority of the sorts of circumstances in which hypnotists suggest these sorts of things, it seems that there is always a very significant difference in the impact of suggestions of the style "remember to forget" (which are far less effective) and those of the style "remembering to forget" (which are far more effective). Suggestions of the style "remember to forget" are far more likely to encounter some level of resistance from the more conscious "critical mind". By contrast, the grammatical structure of the suggestion "remembering to forget" (a) does not provoke this sort of "critical mind" resistance, and, (b) because the unconscious/subconscious/deep mind can not process complex grammatical structures (especially for those subjects in "deep" hypnosis), the suggestion -- when offered in this form ("remembering to forget") -- also allows the intended "message" (i.e., "remember to forget!") to be implanted rather more deeply and strongly and permanently. This is the reason that suggestions such as "as you're relaxing and listening to my voice" are likely to be far more effective, in many more subjects, far more often, and quite regardless of depth of hypnosis, than suggestions such as "as you relax and listen to my voice". |

Frank, you do not state why you wish to cause amnesia in your post.
There is the technique of having a visualization "disapear or evaporate" to have your subject enter somnabulism to work with the subconscious and perhaps forgotten memories.
But it sounds like you wish to cause amnesia. There are some valid reasons for amnesia work.
But in my training we were advised that with suggestions to let client's mind decide when to forget and when and how to remember.
You can work with the subconscious and heal traumatic memories that client has blocked without their ever remembering the actual trauma.
I would suggest not inducing amensia for trauma relief. That is just covering up not healing.
The nlp swish pattern you mention is good work for changing habit patterns such as smoking or anger. Swish technique is not amnesia work.

Hi Maryann, In more than 50 years of clinical practice, I have rarely felt it necessary or useful to to create amnesia in a client during a therapy session. I believe the client has the inner strength to process whatever emerges (with the therapist's help.) I am suspect of a therapists motive in wanting to have the client be unaware of what has taken place in a therapy session. In addition, any skilled therapist can easily revive memories of everything that was experienced in previous hypnotherapy sessions. Amnesia often wears off, sometimes quite rapidly. I believe as a matter of ethics, the client has the right to recall everything that has emerged as part of a hypnotherapy process. All else is unproven theories. With Respect, Gil Boyne

Hello I'm a hobbyhypnotist. Amnesia is quite interesting; but it is less easy to figure out how it is done properly. What also looks like a sort of contrariety is when you make people forget something but meanwhile you have created a posthypnotic suggestion.
One way or another people must forget the phs too, or not? |

What you need to know is a phs is nothing more than a conditioned response/ "an anchor" to an effect, so you can use a gesture, a word, or pretty much anything that you can connect the stimulus to the amnesia response- so it comes down to very easy fundamentals really. |
If it has consciousness it's already in a trance. |
