You do not forget feelings (rejection or guilt or shame) and self-hypnosis is not effective in these cases. An experienced and skilled hypnotherapist will work with you to help you to integrate these feelings. This involves a number of steps including understanding the situations and people connected to the feelings and forgiveness of yourself and others. I have used these processes many times and always with successful results. The cost of three or four sessions with an empathetic therapist is minimal compared to the help you will receive. With Respect, Gil Boyne PS. I suggest that you ignore all simplistic and meaningless bumper sticker responses. |

Mark is correct of course, but I find it hard to blame Matrixman for his snide first reply, since this question is repeated regularly every month of so, and is always put in such a way as to suggest we can all fix ourselves by some magic incantation.... If this were true, we wouldn't be inundated with problems would we? Yes you can be helped by a skilled practitioner, and no you can't fix yourself. The above are facts as we know them today, and I don't expect to see any great changes in the near future. It would be nice if we could always offer a sugar coated reply, but telling the facts as we know them is the only way we can be of help to others, and true to ourselves. |

ANTHONY, If your point is that all healing {mental physical and emotional} must come from within, I think that all professionals agree with the concept. When ailments and problems are linked to or arising from faulty perceptions of self, significant others, the world in general and our ability to cope in a creative way, a therapist can assists the client to create new perceptions. If friends and neighbors could do the work by saying "get over it" or "think positive thoughts" there would be no need for trained therapists. The problems with hypnotherapy in it's present stage of development is that much of the training offered is superfical and inadequate. Many Hypnotherapists know little more than reading scripts or offering esoteric philosophies, in the guise of therapy. Your choice of language seems to indicate that you are upset about the true role of skilled, well trained and experienced hypnotherapists. With Respect, Gil Boyne--- Gil-Boyne.com |

Mark-Gil, "with respect" not only doesn't cut it, but is insulting when one reads the rest of your post. The original poster is not conversant with hypnosis, and I therefor see no reason for informing him beyond his need to know...If you read my reply in full, you will note that when properly read, ie with the addition of magic incantations et al, it makes perfect sense. I suggest you retain your rude remarks for second thoughts before posting in future.... With Respect.... |

ANTHONY, I must take issue with your belief that "The original poster is not conversant with hypnosis, and I therefor see no reason for informing him beyond his need to know...If you read my reply in full, you will note that when properly read, with the addition of magic incantations et al, it makes perfect sense. Many of those "who are not conversant with hypnosis" are hopefully searching for information about an approach to their conflicts and problems. Those of us who have some knowledge have a professional responsibility to post helpful information or be silent. Sarcastic responses, flippant remarks, and using the newbie to get a laugh is juvenile, mean-spirited and hurtful.
