Go to your local bookstore and find any book by Ormand McGill. He is now in his 80s but is basically the foremost expert on stage hypnosis as far as I'm aware. He is affiliated with the National Guild of Hypnotism. He is such a pillar of the hypnosis community that an award is given out in his honor each year to the Guild Member who is voted by their peers to be the best of the best each year.
Anyway, you need to learn his Rapid/Instant Inductions.

Also, inducing trance requires three things:
1) Your subject must be willing to be hypnotized. If they are worried about doing something foolish in front of a crowd, or if they just do not want to .. they won't.
2) Your subject must be relaxed.
3) Your subject must have the ability to focus their attention.
Stage Hypnosis is a specialized area. Instant Inductions are the most dramatic but you must also keep up a constant monologue. If you stop talking, you lose your subjects. Ask for volunteers. Step back and announce that the show begins when the seats are filled. Not everyone who volunteers will make a good subject for a 'show' so you will need to extablish early on that throughout the show you will be asking people to return to their seats as the show progresses.
If you get even one really great subject in your show, you're lucky. The goal is to have a good show, even if people are faking it. In public stage shows, the hypnotist always hopes for at least one person who is easy to induce and goes quite deeply. Doesn't always happen, though.
Do check into the books that Danielle mentioned. You might find them at an online auction or bookstore if you can't find them locally. ¡

sounds like my wife.been faking it for years and she is not even under hypnosis !!!
i agree with others go and read up and study lots,it would do your confidence no good at all to simply go on stage totaly unprepared.
at the very least try some privete shows first. |

How did they define faking it?
If you watch for the psychosamatic clues, u'll always be sure...
I know many subjects that have been hypnotised but when the returned to full awareness, believed that they hadn't been hypnotised but just went along...
However, i've had some of these same clients for hypnotherapy and they were for sure in trance as I was able to do alot of work with post hypnotic results and they still didn't believe they were hypnotised and were just going along with what I said...
What most people don't realise is that hypnosis is going along with the suggestions... and in stage hypnosis it's best to give them the suggestion that they won't remember anything so they believe they have been 'under'.
Then after the show explain how hypnosis is different in therapy for treatment (please do, even if your not a hypnotherapist as the rest of us need positive exposure too).

I have The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism by Ormond McGill and would recommend it to anyone interested in the subject.
Can anyone recommend any books as good as, or better, than this?
Most people tell me this is the best one you can get. |

| This topic seems to be very widely read--Many people it seems do not know how to hypnotise and are looking for the answer---i doubt this forum will give the answer---those that do know guard their secrets |

I am sponsoring a stage hypnosis training course featuring the Canadian stage Hypnotist, Attila He has been an on-stage
professional for more than twenty years. He teaches this course in Edmonton, Canada once each year and I have persuaded him to come to California to pass on his knowledge, skill and stage craft.
