| I read a short book on the origins of hypnosis and a little bit on self hypnosis. It mentioned how stage hypnotists have the same amount of skill as therapists, except they have to work faster to keep the crowd entertained and be able to seek out volounteers that are willing to be hypnotized. I would like to know how is it that the stage hypnotists are able to put the volounteer into such a deep trance so quickly as to be able to command them to do things like quack like a duck and make them think that an onion is an apple and make them eat it? |

| OK let's be fair now, you "read a book", and "a short book" at that, and since a statement was made in print it must be correct, do I understand you correctly? Well I have read many books, and operated a practise in therapy for twenty one years, worked with all sorts of people, and been successful most of the time, though I have never been asked to make anyone cluck like a chicken. Perhaps that is indeed very difficult to do.....As for speed, the induction takes only seconds, but the consultation takes a long time, and of course the stage hypnotist has no need to consult with HIS clients....He's going to make fools of all of them anyway, so why consult as to what sort of fool they would like to be...No, the stage hypnotist only needs skill in the induction, the simplest part of therapy, plus a knowledge of human nature which will allow him to choose the right idiots from the crowd he has to choose from. (EG) say about one in every hundred in his audience..Anthony |

Dear Anthony
The best stage hypnotists ASK for volunteers---They do not CHOOSE them---
Anyone that does volunteer has a reason for volunteering.
At times you tend to be somewhat limited in your assumptions---well i guess this comes with bias or age |
