which is more important in hypnosis focus or relaxation cause I notice that the more I focus the less relaxed I get and the more I relax the less focused I am all while engaging in meditation or self hypnosis practice. once I reach a state of hypnosis how clear will my mind be, will I still have mental chatter? the best I have been able to do was when I managed to render my mind clear of thoughts for only a moment while everything about me felt mildly shimmery. but it thus far wasn't enough to get consistent lucid dreaming, out of about 200 30 minute practice sessions I have only achieved lucid dreaming through self hypnosis 6 times.
for the record how I do it is I relax my body, and then imagine a green circle for about 30 minutes then I repeat to myself a memorized line "in 30 minutes I will fall into a deep sleep and lucid dream."
problems that arise during practice are concerns whether I am doing it right, whether I am focusing too little or too much, whether I am achieving the opposite of a blank mind by focusing and or just feeling relaxed, whether a blank mind is even desirable, how a clear mind can even be achieved by focusing, and more that I probably can't remember right now. I usually deal with these thoughts by struggling not to give into the temptation of analyzing the process while I am doing meditation/hypnosis but I tend to give in at a certain point out of insecurity for a moment which I then feel bad about as I get back to meditating/hypnosis. what should I do to get results and how does hypnosis work in regards my questions?

To your question, relaxation is more important than the focus in the way you describe it. Additionally, relaxation and hypnosis are two different things as well. They are not dependent upon each other. It is possible to be in hypnosis with out a clear mind.
When you get down to it, a person experiencing a panic attack is in a state of hypnosis. Hyper-focus, suspended disbelief, time distortion.
Some people WILL still have some mental chatter but it tends to have a sense of distance to it... getting to lucid dream state consistently will take some practice, and on your own, trial and error.
Concerns about doing it "right" and whatever are "Conscious Interference". This will interrupt depth. |

Hi Is this a general thing that runs through several aspects of your life or specific to when you are trying to focus/relax? I get an idea that you may lack confidence - is that why you are trying this approach? If this is the case it would be worth finding a good hypnotherapist to help you. check them out first and talk to as many as you need to to ensure you get the right person to help you.
