can hypnosis be used to program someone into enjoying that which they normally wouldn't? such as programming oneself through self hypnosis to enjoy boring dull repetitive tasks such as washing dishes, or to enjoy back pain, or to enjoy living in the worst possible circumstances, or to find someone extremely beautiful physically who previously I would find utterly repulsive.
as grim as these questions may be, to what scientific extremes can hypnosis really go in altering ones own mind. Note: I have no intention of programming in any of this into my mind I was just curious. |

Hypnosis can be used to address the negative emotions associated with the thing which they would not normally enjoy - up to a point. It depends on the relative strength of the existing negative association.
A child growing-up in those situations can "learn" to have satisfaction with tasks, pain, bad circumstances, etc..
Scientific extremes...Extreme behavior modification, drug induced hypnosis... these can have some effect, but even these extremes are not completely reliable.
Again it will depend on the relative strength of the targeted belief/behavior and upon the unique personality traits of the individual (both learned and, potentially, genetic)

I'm going to cite two NLP presuppositions to answer yes to your question:
1. If one person can do something, anybody can learn to do the same thing. 2. People respond to their maps of reality, not reality itself.
So, what you would do is find somebody who finds pleasure in tasks like cleaning, or enjoys physical pain (I'm not a masochist, but I imagine that pain might be a way for them to dissociate), or sees the bright side of life, et cetera. Then you would model their beliefs, thought processes and strategies. Once you have that, you can teach the beliefs and strategies to your client, using hypnosis to instill them deeply, so that they are able to have the same experience of enjoyment that the model does.

The question is, why would you WANT to enjoy all of those things that you mentioned? Wouldn't it just contradict with your life goals and general outlook? |

Tony M has hit the million dollar question/ The golden egg is understanding why you want to do it or what is currently making you feel bad about doing it. For instance let's take washing up. You could feel satisfaction from returning your kitchen to it's normal good order! You may feel that you are wasting your time when you have more important things to do! You may feel that it's beneath you, not your responsibility, making you everyone's slave! or a zillion other things. Once you define the why then you can begin to find ways to resolve the how using hypnosis. Easier said than done though as it involves developing a great insight into yourself (which not many of us have) and actually beginning to understand yourself (scary). So that's why it's often easier and quicker to let a professional do it - leaves you more time for the washing up too! lol |

Yes, hypnosis can help in programming a person's mind, just like any other effective methods such as NLP. All you need is to decide this is the goal you want to achieve and believe that the hypnotherapist will help you achieve.

Yes I will agree with Hkelvin but also add that the hypnotherapist/NLP practitioner has to be skilled enough to know your mind and work around your aim and not always directly 'at' it. |
