Hello, I'm a young person who has recently become interested in hypnosis. I listened to [a Hypnosis Audio Program] and had to imagine my feet were tingling and now my left foot is still tingling and it won't go away, it's been two days. The tingling sensation was supposed to be linked with relaxation but now it's just stressing me out! Any way I can reverse this? :(

The odds are that time is the easiest solution for you.
Using some basic suggestion may do the trick, but, you being new to hypno and me feeling lazy about providing a more intensive and complex answer... as long as it's solely a result of hypno work and not physiological, it should go away on it's own very soon. |

It hasn't gone yet so I really hope you're right. I'm very suggestible and I did do research on the hypnotist before listening to her CDs but I didn't know I'd react that way. Her CD helped me some with other problems though, so I'm afraid that tingling is the hook that was used for the other problems to go away.
I managed to make some chronic pain I got because of an illness go away, but I think it's linked to the tingling. I don't want to undo the good that's been done.
This whole thing has discouraged me from trying out more CDs because I took a "harmless" suggestion the wrong way. I don't want to give up on hypnosis though, but maybe I need to practice with my own scripts first. I found a bunch on the internet that seem to be working for me. I'm in the process of curing my eczema. I haven't had any flare-ups in three days, even after touching foods that are highly irritating for me.
Anyway, if you have advice regarding the tingling, please post. |

If needed, I have CD's/MP's that should make the tingling go away. The owner of this site may have some too, I don't know.
Are you saying that you used CD's to address some chronic pain and have this tingling as residual sensation?
What part of your body is the tingling located? How long has it been going on? |

I used a CD whose title I can't mention here (my first post was edited) to address chronic pain due to an illness I have. It's nothing major but I get really bad cramps in my stomach and my back and I take medication for it but I wanted it to go for good without having to take anything regularly. Obviously, I'm not going to listen to the CD again, but on this particular track the hypnotist said that I'd get tingling sensations in my feet in the morning, during the day and at night and that this tingling would make me relaxed. It does *not* make me relaxed at all anymore, because this suggestion has been working for too long. It's been three days now--the tingling is mostly located in my left foot but there's also residual tingling in my right foot. I haven't listened to the CD again--I panicked the minute I noticed there was no canceling of the induction on the CD.
I've heard of suggestions like this lasting a lifetime, so I hope there's a way for me to cancel this one. Frankly, I thought that listening to such a CD would be harmless even if I'm very suggestible. It's not like I downloaded some weird hypnosis track over the internet.

Professionally, my opinion is you should check with your doctor to rule out physiological/biological/medical causes before assuming the tingling is solely from suggestion/hypno work.
Serious circulatory issues can cause tingling. (heart attack, stroke...) and it is simply prudent to rule those possibilities out before continuing.
If you are concerned, you don't need to say anything about hypno work. Just that you want to rule out physical causes.
After doing that... is the tingling from a circulation issue? Muscle tension? (does massage help?)
If it is a suggestion issue, it will NOT last a lifetime. No matter what. It will either go away on it's own or be removed with other hypno work. |

Thanks a lot for your answer. I plan on going to the doctor soon because I did hurt both of my feet doing sports a few days ago. I bandaged them up and have stopped doing sports since, but maybe the tingling is a result of the tendinitis I have. Massage helps, so I'll have to try this again. It's just that no matter what I do, the tingling doesn't stop, even for a second. It just gets less intense when I try to do something about it and relax.

Please let us know the outcome! If the tingling is just a suggestion thing, then we'll deal with it! |

I haven't gone to the doctor yet. The tingling is still there, but it has subsided a bit. My tendinitis isn't gone yet either. I do have general anxiety disorder, for which I'm treated (therapy+ antidepressants). One of the symptoms of GAD is tingling. I think it'd be nice if you, or someone else, helped me get rid of the tingling with hypnosis. I bet it's merely a symptom of my disorder, which means that I probably shouldn't be enduring it for so long since I get treated for the problem. |

douniah,
I've had clients w/ physical pain and/or tingling (as well as eczema) that get long term relief after using hypnosis to address their stress/anxiety/depression symptoms.
Short-term results would be common if only addressing the tingling/eczema on their own if they are caused by stress.
Additionally, just as if you were a client in my office, I won't offer to work on a client's issue if that issue may potentially be the sign of something needing medical attention. Some hypnotists will go forward anyway, I am not one of those. |

I understand. My therapist recommended me NOT to go ahead and see my doctor again, mainly because she is afraid that it'll blown things out of proportion. I guess I'll have to deal with this on my own then. :( It's a shame that I'm not experienced enough to work on this alone. I'll probably go against my therapist's advice at some point and have my doctor check it out, even if I don't know what course of action for me would be best for my anxiety issues. Thanks for trying to help! |

A cognitive behavioral therapist. She told me I had these symptoms (tingling, tendinitis) because I'm too stressed out. I know I'm stressed out. I'm not even done with my midterms yet, so obviously I'll keep worrying for another month. However, it doesn't mean that I don't want to be calmer and less anxious. I like my therapist, but I don't agree with what she told me today. She thinks that I have to either hypnotize my pain away or think about something else, which is hard to do given the circumstances.

Again with the "client in my office example" - the stress is the target in this whole situation. Otherwise you're just trying to "treat" the symptoms rather than the cause....
If you'd like, email me directly and I can see if I can help.
