Embedded commands seems a very interesting subject but I have yet to see an article or book where it is explained comprehensively. When I go and look at different articles they explain it differently or even give an example which doesn't follow on from the last article I've read.
From what I can gather there are numerous ways to use embedded commands but I would like to read articles, downloads or books which really explain the subject and gives lots of examples. I know for example the brain on a subconscious level doesn't see the difference between by and buy and it wont recognise the difference between don't drink and drive and drink and drive but would the brain see the phrase breakdown as something which doesn't work or something which is broken down in to separate parts etc.
I have read a lot but so far I've tended to get more confused rather than find answers to the countless questions I have.
Any genuine help would be appreciated! |

These conclusions are commonly talked about, but I have found the results to be inconsistent. Some people DO recognize the difference between by and buy when used in context. And, many DO comprehend the difference when using "don't, no, not".
When I have found inconsistent results with these types of wording, I stopped worrying about they're use. I have not found it to be relevant.
Are there more specific examples you are thinking of? |

I cant help but be very sceptical when it comes to a lot of embedded stuff. I have trained in NLP and Ericksonian Hypnosis but try to steer clear of the grey area's such as this.
They can evoke emotional responses I suppose so have some use. I really believe there use is more limited than people think though.
We have a good defence system up there. |

Cheers two good replies I myself also believe that some of the claims made are more than questionable.
I will try to do some research myself to see if I get any worthwhile findings.
Reading the web and NLPers we are informed these are very strong messages but I'm yet to be convinced. |

I've seen some posts/commentary around the web talking about the Power of Conversational Hypnosis course. Most of it was more or less positive and some of it was from professional hypnotherapists and hypnotists. |

dkcm66, were those posts/commentary in the form of testimonials/marketing? Because those are the bulk of the positive I have seen.
You might check kevinhogan.com. He does teach influence/hypnosis and is very conservative in his claims. Lots of research to back-up his approaches. Also, loads of articles on his site to check out. |

Embedded commands are interesting. Why do they work? How do they work?
When someone says 10 words in a row with identical emphasis, they all have equal weight to the mind, at least before they trigger any thoughts or memories. If you put a pause and change your way of speaking for ONE of those 10 words, the word thus paused around will carry more weight. We are conditioned for that.
What this means is that the strength of the signals in the brain will be stronger, which means the memories and thoughts triggered will be a little bit stronger, will rise to conscious awareness more rapidly.
Combine this with many embedded commands that are all related, embedded in language that doesn't seem to convey a whole lot of cognitive substance, and what naturally follows is that the idea that all of the embedded commands seem to point to will rise above the rest, influencing the mind of the person hearing them.
However, the ideas that you have in response to the word and the ideas that someone else may have may not be the same. You have to stack them in order to get reliable, measurable results. And it's a lot of work. So, the question that naturally follows is, WHY?
If you're just trying to learn more about how the mind works, great, knock yourself out. If you are actually trying to help people, there are easier ways of getting results.
If you just want to learn, and understand, and have specific questions, ask them. I'm sure someone here can answer them. |

Good reply. I also think that some of the NLP recordings that you see are relying on the fact that the NLP er has built up a relationship with the student (they're in training) and it is therefor much easier to command them and to know who to choose to command after spending some time with them.
Something that I seem to use a lot are things like you are feeling - relax (ed) NOW. It's a bit of confusion because they are expecting something to follow on from feeling that makes sense, then the relax now is the command although it sort of fits too as the ed on the end could be assumed. I'm sure a lot of hypnotherapists slip a few things like that in now and again. |
