I am a beginner in hypnosis but have discovered I have a natural ability and nack for it. I have been going through a reliable book which acts as merly a guide. I have engaged in self hypnosis sucessfully the first time I tried. The next stage was to try age regression but only to a recent meal I had with someone. When I tried to age regress I found images unclear and found my conscious memory trying to remember it and getting in the way. I kept repeating to myself "I am drifting back, back to yesterday evenings lunch" and after doing this for quite a while and noting the difficulty involved I left myself with the suggesstion that I would wake feeling releaxed, refreshed, etc and remember the school work i was studying for the next 30 minutes for tomorows test.
When I awoke I found my eyes brushing across the pages really fast and words just floating into my mind, but my recollection of them at this moment is not very good. First I would like to know if I was in a trance, I asked my subconscious mind and the answer was yes, but I would like some personal view on it. If so how can I assure the material will be availible in tomorows test "my subconcious mind said it would".
I then asked my mind based on the metre stick technique, how deep I had gone, the answer was between 35-40inches, I then asked if I was in a penamic trance or whatever that is, and it said no. I asked if I was really close and the answer was yes, I asked if it would be possible for me to enter that state through self hypnosis and the answer was yes. How can I control my depth of hypnosis andcontrol how deep a trance I go into, I want to stay in a light trance so that I can regress, but I go into a deep hypnosis almost instantly. Should I just make a suggestion to myself, and if so in what format would you word it?
Thanks :D

Welcome to the group.
Did you do a search in the forum for "depth" before you posted?
There are many very good discussions already underway about "depth of trance" and most people here will not start "all over again" just because someone new comes in and asks the same question in a new post.
Search is your friend! Use the search link at the top of every page.
Once you do a search and see what everyone has already discussed then perhaps you can ask the question (in one of those already open threads which is closest to your topic) in a more advanced manner. I am almost certain someone will respond at that point.
I think you will discover that most people are now of the opinion that depth is something that is no longer considered important in the Hypnosis process. I could say more - but instead I will let you read for yourself.
Here is a good place to start:

Well, there is a disagreement over that one, is depth important. Gil Boyne will say no, others will say yes. My take on it is that it really depends on what you are doing. It helps to have a deeper trance when working with past life regression as well as life between lives spiritual regression. while it is possible to recall memories in an alpha state, I have found that some people are not as successful in a light state, but once they reach a deeper theta state, they are in a better place to recall memories.
Another consideration would be pain control, a deeper state would be more beneficial for this as well. Of course the problem is how do you measure this? Short of doing as Tom Silver does and hooking your client up to EEG and watching the changes on the display, there is not a good way to be certain in all cases. Sure if you have someone with fluttering eye lids, you can be confident that they are in a deeper state. |
