I read this book years ago and have been intrigued by the possibilities in it ever since. I've had a few hypnosis sessions, although not very fruitful. The sessions were relaxing but suggestions didn't really take hold or anything.
One of the things in the book I'm most interested in is the "room" he talks about. You induct yourself with self-hypnosis, and then enter a room where you can invite other people, maybe learn things, etc. I can think of about a million applications for something like that.
So does anyone have any experience with this books style of hypnosis? How should I approach it? Could I do it with some tapes in my free time? Are appointments with professionals necessary? |

If I understand what you mean, there are many scenarios of that visualization.
When doing things like this with self-hypnosis, it can be difficult to obtain spontaneous (accurate?) answers. It is difficult to maintain a good depth of hypnosis while guiding your own imagery.
While not impossible, the chances of success would be much higher if you had someone guiding the visualization for you to follow.

When you have a one-on-one session with a Professional you can ask them to teach you Self-Hypnosis while you are hypnotised. This is a great way to get into what you are looking for.

Professionals in what?
There are professional, trained counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists that will also practice hypnosis with poor results.
All hypnotists are not created equal. There are many different styles, techniques, and philosophies.... and everyone has bad days. Even me, but I won't admit it.
Chances are, a professional, trained hypnotist can help you.. all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. Clients in my office hypnotize themselves if they follow the instructions. Self-hypnosis is an integral part of a session.
It can be difficult for some people to use self-hypnosis without some guidance/instruction. On the other hand, some people are in hypnosis all the time - walking zombies.

Hypnodoc, yes they attempted to teach me self-hypnosis in a hypnosis session.
patrickg, they were from what I understand trained hypnotherapists. One of them had a really nice office in Philadelphia and was really nice. I just felt like it wasn't working "very well" with me. I was relaxed, but I didn't feel like suggestions were doing anything or that I was really hypnotized. Like perhaps I was in the lightest stage of hypnosis, the part where you begin a session, but was unable to get out of that into deeper levels. |
