I found a great online course that teaches you how to become a qualified hypnotherapist so you can make a living with what you (and I) love! It's even under $200!!!

I have been teaching "Hypnotherapy as a Career" for 37 years including seven years in London.I teach in a commercial building as a state-licensed school with regularly scheduled classes all year round. I have had many students who told me that their first effort to learn hypnotherapy was to purchase a home study course.
They quickly learned felt incompetent and indeed were incompetent. All reported that they felt they wasted their time and money on mail order courses. To become truly qualified to be a successful practiticioner requires classroom contact hours with a highly experienced, qualified instructor and other students for practice sessions. Anyone can go to a library and check out several hypnosis/hypnotherapy books that will supply an equal amount of information as most home study courses provide.

| I think this guy was just advertising his own product. But while on the topic, I agree with Gil. A real school, with a chance to practise on others and to give and receive feedback is in my opinion the best way to learn. One cannot learn to ride a bike by reading books, even on the internet. I wrote an article about learning stage hypnotism (http://www.thathypnoshow.com/content/blogcategory/30/71/) that makes similar points about these "online courses" and other such doubtful offers. |

Techniques of inducing hypnosis can be learned in an hour, but these are just the mechanics. Acquiring the skills and the art requires a lot longer. Just as with learning to play the piano, as one practices over the weeks and months, skills begin to develop which include many facets. With hypnotherapy there is the ability to understand and respond to the clients needs; to be flexible in choosing the best approach for that client, developed competence in verbal fluency and gestures and especially the confidence of the therapist in their own abilities. This requires competence of the therapist in achieving and using the trance and self programming for themselves. This element is often severely neglected in training courses.
As mentioned before, the hypnotic state is an interaction between two people at deeper levels of the mind. The confidence and expectation of the therapist, based on their abilities and experience, affects the outcome greatly and this is conveyed directly to the subconscious of the client, so that they believe they are going to go into the state successfully.
The particular induction technique that is used is just the ritual; an instant induction works perfectly for many people and a somewhat longer approach can be used if there is a particular purpose in doing so. Once the state has been acquired, then the art of using programming affirmations, and the art of uncovering and reeducating the subconscious mind away from unhealthy and frustrating beliefs requires a understanding by the therapist of the principal methods of effective reprogramming AND profound analytical hypnotherapy. The basis of learning this is best acquired in about 200-300 hours over 5 to 6 weeks,(daily classroom attendance) preferably taught in an intensive format, so that after a few months of practice, the student has learned to perform at a competent level. The first year or two of working with clients can be seen as part of an apprenticeship and over further years of successful practice, a therapist may eventually become a master practitioner

There are many programs like that, promising to "teach you how to be a licensed hypnotherapist, for under $200" or so.
For most programs, that "license" is a diploma given by the vendor of the course, no matter how good or bad you are as a hypnotherapist.
I'd stay away, or double-check all promises made. |
