Hi all,
I was wondering if there was an effective way to record CDs during sessions without a computer. I don't mind buying whatever sound equipment needed, I just don't have a phone or computer in my office, I use them in my home office instead.
I've looked at a few good CDRs, not sure if I need a mixer or what else. Thanks for any input.

Hello,
In almost all ways a computer is one of the worst ways to do any live recording. The higher end your sound card the more noise it picks up from your PC. Also burning a session direct to a CD is not a very good way to go either as they are impossible to edit and once you have recorded you are stuck with whatever the outcome and certainly there are some parts of the whole session that you don't want to include. Most times you want a condensed version of the session for your client to listen to.
I have seen some very talented Hypnotherapists do "live recording" of sessions onto a handheld unit. This may take a little practice at first but in the end it is the very best way to record live sessions.
Most handheld units record to cassette tape or digital (cassette is the easiest way to hand the client a recording at the end of the session). During the session you can press the hold button to stop recording during any sections that are not appropriate for the "take home" recording. With a little practice you can do a live edit of your recording as you go through your sessions. If you do make any mistakes then you can do some editing to clean up. In this way you can offer the client a take home session to help support the live session made up of actual parts of the live session. If "live edited" correctly it can be a very good support system for your session. For example: record the induction but leave out any deepening or testing; then record your suggestions but leave out any past life or questioning; and then record the awakening process. Click off and hand the cassette tape to the client. Done.
If you are looking to do recordings to create MP3 and CDs to sell then that is another topic altogether. |

Thank you for your replies. Yes I have been recording hypnosis during sessions on cassette for years now, and have not had a problem, the clients have been happy with them.
More and more clients ask if I can record on CD for them instead of tape. I also want to record in my office for files I can upload to computer for out of area clients and other online projects.
I've done research on this over the past couple of years and was wondering if anyone has good experience with recording to CD in the office without using a computer or software (during recording). I would also appreciate hearing about good editing software!
Matrixman, I'm still checking out the system you found in the UK. I'd like to find something I can get in the U.S.
