| Hi I am new to hypnosis and I was wondering what the rule was for hypnotizing someone while they are drunk or buzzed? |

Hi
The implications of doing hypnosis, under the influence of some mind altering substance, can lead to some very negative ramifications, as when you are under the influence your homeostatic, fight-flight response is impaired, so your normal safety or self protection mechanisms, wont work as well as they should, and this can lead to a host of misfortunate, issues, as you will be more limited in what suggestions are processed, by your brain, and the way in which you filter, the ones what would be good and not so good, plus the brain is a state dependent organ, so if a negative suggestions where put in place in the drugged state, then it would be a lot harder for the user to work past the issue on there own, and it would be chemically chained into the brains structure. So would need a professional, to untangle the effects of what could occur.
This could happen, if drugs and hypnosis are done at the same time, depression, all the way up to schizophrenia, depending on what drugs, and what happened in the hypnotic session.
DO NOT DO HYPNOSIS WHILE DRUNK OR ON DRUNGS IT WILL MESS YOU UP!!!!

The question was posted, I believe, because this person is interested in Stage Hypnosis and they need to deal with people who have had a few drinks.
This post really belongs under Stage Hypnosis and not in the General Hypnosis area. I am sure a moderator will move it there at some point. |

| In a stage hypnosis context I'll accept people who have had a drink or two, but people who are drunk or stoned are generally obnoxious before they are hypnotised on stage and don't get any better after that - so I will not accept volunteers who are "off their faces" for several reasons, one being that they are no fun anyhow. It is also difficult to maintain an appropriate level of physical safety with such people, the risk of them falling or blundering into someone or some equipment is high, posing a danger to all. Where I live, being drunk is uncool and increasingly uncommon, so there are always plenty of excellent good natured volunteers without needing to accept any drunkards. |
