I'd like to hear others ideas on how and where to get gigs for your stage hypnosis show. I've been in the business for two and a half years, and it's going pretty well. I thought we could create a win-win situation and help each other out.

Posted - 10/07/2016 : 5:58:56 PM Hello, Not sure if this thread is still live but I get nearly all my bookings through word of mouth and having my web-site ranking high in Google. Very rearly do I use an agent and I get a lot of repeat bookings. Hope this helps.

Posted - 09/28/2012 : 2:36:18 PM Yes I've been to one of your weekends Adam Knight. Think I would need hypnotherapy to give me the courage to step into the water of stage hypnosis but would love to give it a go - just to prove I could. I'm very happy with the therapy side but stage hypnosis would be a bit of a break on the lighter side and I do enjoy a bit of fun as well as the the serious side. Maybe one day it will be appealing enough for me to change my limiting thoughts on the subject and get on with it. Ill let yu know if and when I do. |

Posted - 03/13/2011 : 07:59:13 AM Hi I have been in the stage hypnosis business for over 20 years and have seen things change a lot. Most of my bookings used to come from agents, but now almost everything comes from my website. Good optomisation, and good publicity to follow up with speaks volumes. Thanks for your reply. It was very informational. I also wanted to let you know that I started my career in clinical hypnosis. I did that for about six years. I decided to move into the entertainment arena, because it just suited my personality. Rest assured that I spend time discussing the clinical value of hypnosis.

Your best bet is to hire a Talent Agent. The top Hypnosis Acts around the country get booked by professionals. Some of the highest paid Hypnosis Stage Acts are booked worldwide, out of New York City. Even though the majority of bookings are for State Fairs and College shows, they ALL get booked by Agents. If you are just starting out you may want to find a smaller / local agency to take you on, until you develop your act.
Agents charge a percentage of what you make. Usually 15%; but I have heard of cases where a top agency charged 30%. Once you are ready to make $1000 to $1500 a night you will only get these kinds of gigs from bookings through an agency and you will have to give up a percentage. The good thing about this is that the agent is always trying to get you more money as that increases their income.
Once you are demanding this kind of money and your reputation is such that you can get it, you will probably also need to hire a manager and give up another percentage. But if you are traveling and doing more than a few shows a week this will become more of a necessity than a luxury, as you will have no time to deal with all the details involved with getting you from place to place.
You may think it would be a good idea to hire a manager and agent (in one person) but this is a very rare combination and ever since the "Jefferson Airplane Act," the law says these cannot be the same person, charging two percentages. But more importantly the two are very different jobs and it would be extremely hard to find someone who could do both effectively.
For most people looking to make a career in Show Business, moving to New York or LA is advisable, however you can find a booking agent to represent you without moving to a big city. Perhaps by visiting one of these cities you could show off your video tapes and find some representation. Be prepared to do a lot of walking and talking.
So IMHO, hire a booking agent and let the Pro do his / her stuff. That way you can concentrate on your hypnosis and your act.

PS - Please try to set aside a few minutes in a small portion of the show to explain the growing clinical value of Hypnosis Therapy to the world. Give some examples and help people to understand that it is more than just a show. You are our ambassadors. Thanks.

Hello and welcome Bill,
I don't think you'll find much luck getting responses regarding stage hypnosis from this group. This seems to be clinical people but mostly people starting out and or those with personal questions. I've been trying to get assistance with no luck. I did get one response from someone who recommended contacting schools as a way to get shows.
I'll be more than happy to help you in any way so if you'd like to write I'll give you my email address. darlenestrahan@hotmail.com
Thanks,
Darlene
