Hey everybody,
Just did a show at a google center. Video links are below.
Let me know what you think! What did I do well—what should I improve?
To give a little background—most of the participants are tech nerds! The girl who came up was a massage therapist who works there.
What happened was I didn’t see a lot of reaction from the hot/cold. But people noticed that the girl was reacting. During the piano skit—only the lady did the piano—and I thought she did it mostly out of pity or just to play along. So I did the steel bar test—people who are hypnotized will typically lower their hands quickly and without any conscious intervention. I thought all four put in some effort to lower their hand, so I figured none of them were deep enough, so I cut the show short.
Later, the massage therapist told me that she’s so not musically inclined that she just couldn’t image doing it.
In retrospect, I should have dismissed the 3 guys and just finished up the show with her. I have to work on my ability to call up more people and on my ability to dismiss people.
Any thoughts you guys might have? Are tech people less likely to volunteer and then less likely to be good subjects? I did a show for another group that just had about 12 people—2 people had their hands more than a foot apart and both went under quickly. And if the massage therapist was hypnotized, how come her hand didn’t just fall down automatically when I touched her forehead?

This one had 10 people, got three up. Only one responded to the bucket/kite test and she really responded to the commands. Going to focus on being able to dismiss people.
Yeah-- I kinda figured tech people would be difficult.
What about older people? A comic I know wants me to do a show with him at a convalescent home. Any chance of that working?

Not watched the vids yet. Will try to in the next couple days.
Tech people are typically a pain in the butt to work with. Major conscious interference going on. They're trained to think that way.
Maybe the MT wasn't comfortable in front of people she works for? |
