Hi, my brother has started reading Derren Brown's "Tricks of the Mind". He learnt how to put people in a trance and wanted to try it on me.
So I lay on his sofa and stared at this glowing green light he has. He started speaking in a very soft and lulling voice and coaxed my eyes shut. He walked me down some imaginary stairs counting down from 10. Before this I was trying not to laugh, but when I was at the bottom of these stairs he told me to open the door that was there that led into an imaginary garden.
It was at this point that my breathing started to become really deep and sort of jerky. I thought I was starting to twitch but my brother says I was staying still.
He told me to sit on a bench in my mind garden and try and lift my arm, which he said was really heavy, my arms were crossed, so I couldn't try this or lift my arm up when he said it was feeling really light.
He did some other stuff, and when he walked me back up the stairs, he took me out of the trance. I sat up and opened my eyes. It was at this point when I realised I was shaking and sweaty. I felt really weird and dizzy and started to cry. Like a little girl.
Why is this? Was I in a real trance? I really wanted this to work, so was I doing all that stuff? And more importantly, why did I cry? |

Hi
Some times when the body becomes really relaxed, when you become aroused, then the muscles release a huge amount of tentio0n, as your body as to adjust to a new calibration, so its just an emotional release from trapped tension.
Now some people might attribute this to something called an abreaction, which relates to a part of your conscious that keeps emotional based memories out of your conscious awareness, and that might be, yet in most cases it is just because you have released a huge amount of physical tension.
This emotional release is very common, when the solar plexus warms up and your breathing rate changes which you said you noticed.

Do you think I was in a real trance? And will my brother be able to put me in a trance again, and maybe try some new techniques? |

All language is hypnosis, so it all depends on if you play along or not.
Imagine you have a big bright juicy lemon, now get a sense of how it smells, and just imagine squeezing, and feel the juice running over your fingers. Now imagine that you are about to take a big bite out of the lemon.
Now just from them few words, as your mouth started to respond, and you might have noticed that you have a lot more Silvia.
All language is hypnosis.
