Hello, I have been trying self-hypnosis for a short time and on my last trial, *something* happened, but I'm not sure whether it was trance, relaxation, or I simply fell asleep.
I have had a problem with relaxation of the body from the beginning, because my mind was always actively trying to do and control everything, so when I was supposed to relax, I would always get an itch somewhere. :p
Later I managed to 'hypnotize my body', but not my mind. My body felt exactly as the voice on the tape said it was supposed to - disconnected, I had no necessity or ability to move.
On my last trial, I noticed things going on in my mind. First one was that I noticed I was sleepy, or in a state as if I was sleepy, denoted by 'looseing' of my mind; my mind 'sunk', stoped actively controling, until it crossed my mind 'hey, I'm feeling sleepy, aren't I?'. Then I was more aware for a while, but I think I noticed a few times how relaxed I was, that I had never attained that state of relaxation so far. Then in the last third of the session, my mind seemed to sort of 'fall into the depth'. While in this depth, I don't remeber what I was thinking, it I was thinking at all, but I noticed this falling, because my mind would leap back near the surface (but not on the surface) and fall back into the depth a couple of times. The most important denotement of being in the depth was that I wasn't aware of the room arround me, it was like my mind was in another place. Then it leapt back to the surface and I realized what had happened. The state of 'surface' is like an inbeetween state, when my body is relaxed, hypnotized, but my mind isn't, like at the beginning when I'm getting into the trance (or am supposed to). (I describe all this with my own laic language, as I think pictures the feeling the best) Anyway, at that point I tried to go back into the depth, but I couldn't. I decided to wait on the surface utill the end of the session, but my mind was as if it slowly pushed up towards awarenes and I had a couple of those itches and necessity to move again. I did the waking up count anyway and opened my eyes.
I would really appreciate an oppinion on whether I was at least close to a trance. Thanx for taking the time to read my experience! |

It's exactly how it happened for me. At first I couldn't relax without getting an itch. Then I got passed the itches and distractions and relaxed my body but I was highly aware, and thinking. After a few more sessions (about 10-14) I seem to be falling asleep, or am I? The funny thing is that I wake up always before the count, and I don't remember thinking about anything for a while. In some sessions I have to do stuff phisically to establish anchors (like make a fist), do I really do that without thinking about it ? Please answer because this... |

This has been happening to me a lot too! I have been falling asleep during my self hypnosis CD's and not visulising etc and not even remembering what transpired during that time. I always wake up by the end of the CD though so I was wondering if I was asleep or just in some kind of deep trance. |

If you are emerging along with the CD audio, you are getting close to sleep, but are still hearing the audio track.
It's debatable how effective the audio's suggestions are when a person has that depth... and I have found the results (for example food control or stress reduction) vary widely from person to person when experiencing this type of depth. |
