Hey all, I've been studying hypnosis for a few weeks now, have a great set of video's from some prominant Hypnotheripists and having some pretty good responses from my test subjects... however... I myself am having a hard time with the elman inductions being used on me. I've been hypnotised once or twice before, but through a different induction.
The part with the elman induction that I get lost on every time is the counting down from 100.. I ALWAYS see the numbers, infact I'm usually queing up the next two or three numbers to say, before I even say them. Should I suggest my hypno-study buddy, try using another induction?

Hello
I am sure you have enough imagine to, be able to just imagine the numbers are on a small black board and that only ONE number can be seen at a time. 100, blank 99 blank 98 blank and so on.
As it’s your imagination, run it how best work for you..
Stand tall be well.

If it has consciousness it's already in a trance. |

Anyone who has a special concern or background with numbers,viz--an accountant, cashier, bank teller, mathematician etc. will experience difficulity in losing numbers in the Elman technique. What is your need to have your trance induced by this method? There are many trance inductions you can use. Forget about the ones you have difficulity with. |

I think something is being forgotten with the deepening technique. It's not an induction. How it works from my training is to say as follows.
Imagine on a blackboard the numbers 100, 99, 98, 97, 96. (Note: No more numbers then these 5) When I ask you to, start to count down slowly, and with each number you say, doubling the state of mind and body relaxation. So that by the time you reach the numbers 97 ... or 98! (Add emphasis to this number in your tone) You'll be so calm that all the numbers will have been erased from the board (Not your mind, memory or so forth) Start with the idea of making this happen... now start counting please. (As they count downwards, I generally rub a my hand upon my leg, making the sound of erasing. )
Client: 100 Therapist: Doubling the state of mind and body relaxation, and watch the numbers disappear. Client: 99 Therapist: Make the numbers disappear, see them erase. Client: 98 Therapist: Now the numbers are totally erased from the board... Client: ... Therapist: Are the numbers gone? Client responds either positively or with 97. If they respond with the number, continue, when you get a positive response to the question of the numbers being gone (And remember they can ONLY count to 96 as there are no more numbers on the board!) Therapist: Are you SURE the numbers are gone?
Getting this answered positively is crucial as you will save yourself the difficulties of false somnambulism, and know that your client is where you want them. |

Hi guys,
I would just like to ad that at the end of Elman's induction, you shouldn't say "are the numbers gone", but instead -- "are THEY gone". If you ask - are the NUMBERS gone, - you are in fact reminding the person of numbers and they are reappearing. I'm using this technique, and the numbers are gone every time at 98 latest. |

This is a deepening technique, right? Not an induction? |

First allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mike and I am VERY new to the world of hypnosis. But it is my understanding that if the numbers don't disappear then you are not in true somnambulism. You will need to go back and do an arm drop deepening.
This worked for me very recently when I was working on my wife. She was very resistant to having me put her in trance.
Then again what the heck do I know?
