The wonderful thing about the trance state when used for Mediumship is its total ability to scotch any ideas of the third party involved being a 'figment of one's imagination'.
I can and do work in full trance and allow people from the spirit world to speak. These people have their own personality, their own voice and speech patterns, knowledge different to my own, their own beliefs (different to my own) and are a totally different being altogether. When we watch other accomplished mediums working in the trance state - and believe me, they are wonderful to watch - it is not a show, not a figment of the medium's imagination. They can prove who they are most of the time, they can give evidence of their own survival, etc.
The people who do this work are totally level-headed, most frequently (like myself) extremely down to earth and well grounded. They are usually, but not always, highly intelligent and far-thinking.
Speaking as an ambassador for the spirit world, I can vouch that there was a life before this one and that there is another life after this one. I have done work on my own past lives, they total something like 23 or 24. I have not investigated all of them, merely the first three and the last two. The dates, places and historical information given are correct to the last detail.
My hypnotherapy tutor views me with a quizzical eye, but then we all do that when it is an idea of which we have no knowledge.

Are they visible sometimes in broad daylight? Do you see them if you are walking in the park & doing other ordinary things? Or do they appear at other particular places & times? What other ways do you recognise their presence? Are you aware that they are present even when you are not able to to see or hear them? Are they present when you are having a conversation with someone? Do they just brush past your ears & do other tricky stuff? Do they gnaw at your joints & cause you pain & discomfort? Do they pass through your body & out the other side? Do you think or feel that they are being to sent to you by someone you know? How do they affect you? Do they affect your ability to concentrate & function normally? These are all very serious questions. I have a Taijiuan/Qigong student who continues to be bothered by spirit entities. I am not sure how to help her. She is quite sure that the training that we do is helpful & not the source of the spirits visitations. She is able to describe the spirits in detail. Last time I saw her she said that she listens to a Reiki healing tape to get to sleep. I am reluctant to interfere with her experiences as I feel that she is going through a spiritual emergence of some sort & I am not trained or experienced in spiritual midwifery.

Right Lindsay, here goes to answer all your questions!
First of all we have three types of Mediumship ability
1. clairvoyant, literally meaning 'clear seeing'
2. clairsentient, 'clear feeling'
3. clairaudient, 'clear hearing'
I am fortunate, I have all three faculties. We open up to allow the spirit world access to work with us, then we close down. It is not good for a medium to be open to spirit all the time.
If I was openen up all the time, yes I would be able to see them anywhere and everywhere, daylight or darkness. However, even when I am closed down, I am aware if one of my Guides is near me, or one of my close relatives in spirit, purely down to the vibration that is unique to each of us, whether we are here or in spirit!
The spirit world are with us 24 hours a day, every minute of every day. They are there to look after us and to help us along our pathway.
If you have mediumistic ability you exude a white light in your auric field and the spirit world are attracted to that white light. They come because they want to communicate with loved ones on the earth, they want them to know that they are alright and that they are still with us. Yes, they can and do listen in to our conversations!!
Do they pass through our body? Yes they can. Depending on how close they get to us, they can merely touch us , or move through us. I have had this happen to me maybe twenty times, so it is not common as such, and really is not necessary.
We do not call up the dead!! They come because they want to. We cannot sit here and ask for Aunt Ellen or whoever, we can request but we cannot demand.
Your student obviously has mediumistic ability and spirit are trying to make their presence felt. The first thing is this - you need to establish whether she wants to 'work' with her gift or not. If she does not, then she must be very firm with the spirit world. I know what has set all this away. Using the reiki meditation music and your work as a qigong student has allowed her to be so relaxed that the spirit world have found her easy to work with!!
So, she needs to sit down and say, thankyou for letting me know you are there, but I really do not wish to have any contact with the spirit world at all and send them away.
Either way, whether she wants to work with them or not she must do two other things. She needs to visualise herself in a ball of white light, completely surrounding her. Then, she needs to visualise a large black cloak, and imagine being swathed in the material. This is a way of 'closing down' and shutting out spirit. She is a 'sensitive' so she may still feel their presence. It will gradually go away. Really, though, if she does not want spirit contact she MUST be very firm about it!!!

Thank you for your clear reply Ann. I'll print out our conversation & pass it on to E*. I am sure she will value your advice. I have read of similar ideas - wrapping yourself up in white light for protection. As for myself, sometimes I have a feeling that I am a sort of conduit & that energy passes through me from somewhere. I just focus & vibrate, if that makes sense. I aquired skills from Apin, my father-in-law [massuer trained in India to massage wrestlers] & from my Taijiquan, Qigong & Kalaripayat teachers over the last 30 years. I practise Shiatsu & Acupressure & have been a professional musician & teacher of music all my working life & I am sure that background has something to do with where I am at now.
