Well, bless my soul! I forgot all about this hyp-on-line thing until just a few minutes ago - decided to have a look and there you are - my only Aussie mate it seems, asking about eating problems. I just finished seeing my third patient with eating problems, today. Having been in this business for nearly thirty years now and after using the more traditional approaches to hypnosis & weight/eating problems for the first few years, I have to say that for the most part, the usual methods return a very low percentage of positive, LONG TERM results. I know most therapists will tell you how well they do, but how many of them really have long-term follow up?
Before moving to QLD three years ago, I worked in Blacktown, NSW for over 20 years and operated my clinic called, "Blacktown Weight Control Centre". For the last 15 of those years, I never spent 10 cents on advertising. My practice operated 5 days a week (and often 3 or 4 nights) exclusively from client referral. And the majority were people with o/eating/o'weight problems. The only way I could do this was to come up with better ways and means. For many years now, I have almost exclusively used what we now know as P.S.H. for weight problems (and nearly everything else, as well). This is a method a late colleague and I developed over a period of many years. We began teaching other therapists in 1989 and there are now quite a few - mainly in the Southern states - who use our techniques. I couldn't justify using the old methods I was originally taught, these days. Still not perfect, but quite superior to the things that are still being taught and practiced around the world.
I don't want this to look like an add, so I will recommend you get a copy of my former partner's book, Emotional Healing and have a read. I placed it on the 'recommended' list on this site when I joined - I guess it is still listed there - I haven't looked today. If it's not there, get back to me.

I came to the conclusion too that eating for comfort was the area to focus on. I haven't looked for the book you mentioned & I haven't found the recommened list either, must look today. I've just had a quick look at your site & will contact you when I have more time.
Smokers often fall off the wagon too when they get upset. It seems that people with emotional pain often indulge in self destructive behaviour as a way to relieve tension. Anorexia & Bulimia sufferers really tempt fate. Slashing your wrists in a warm bath is a quicker & less painful way to commit suicide.

I have read & underlined some sections of the first 4 chapters, a few pages @ a time. My wife & I will be going to the Capricorn Coast this week for a couple of days so I'll take EH with me & will probably finish it there. My usual thing is to precis good stuff that I read so I'll start doing that too. I agree pretty much with all that Frank had to say, especially the stuff about the subconscious.
I have applied to go to the Joseph Barber workshops but haven't had confirmation yet. I expect to be in Brisbane Oct 18-27. The actual sessions are 19-21 & 22-24 but I'm taking a few days extra so that I can reflect on what I pick up & don't have to rush back home to work & I have friends to catch up with too.
I'll contact you before I leave so that we can meet & have a chat.
