I am a Certified Hypnotherapist. I have found it necessary to first have the client fill out a form reflecting past experiences which may have caused the eating problem. Once I receive this form completed, I then take them through a "relaeasing process" so they can release the needs to overeat. If you will e-mail me, I will be happy to send you these forms.

I have just joined your weight loss club, it looks interesting. I amgoing to work my way through the messages to pick up any titbits, could you please email me the text please. As a 20 stone hypnotherapist I am not in much of a position to say to others that I can help them with their weight. Funny really I've come so far but the eating is proving to be a bit of a sticky obstacle. It's almost as though I'm not ready to give up my last comfort object. :)

Almost every weight-loss program and group in the world now uses some form of Hypnotherapy. Some call it by different names but it is all Hypnosis. The only problem is that 99% of these programs only have group sessions. One-on-one professional Hypnosis costing what it does and the need in the weight loss therapy for multiple sessions can drive their member’s costs up dramatically so they avoid it. The bad part about this is that many of those in the group sessions will tell you they have tried Hypnosis and it does not work on them. Of course, what they really tried was a group workshop. The good part about this is that it is a terrific selling point for Hypnosis and the need for one-on-one sessions.
I (imho) have found the book "Perfect Weight" by Deepak Chopra MD, to contain some great pre-session forms, exercise program, as well as a good mix of information about the traditional Indian science of health known as Ayurveda.

Why anyway do we have to know what the reasons are for any kind of behavour?.
Their unconscious mind knows......
So why not simply ask it to stop?.
I have about seven weight loss clients at the moment and they are all doing well.
I give them a subliminal tape I have recorded to play at home as often as possible.
Funny thing is I AM LOSING WEIGHT TOO!.

Please folks, don't perpetuate the conscious-level "forms/counselling/try- hard-to-do-it" approach that's been happening for a million years! And yes, the s/c DOES know what is wrong - BUT please DON'T ASK IT! Give it (the person) the opportunity to make some REAL change - at the subconscious level . Get out of your client's mind and give them a real chance to change. Only the client's inner 'mind' knows how to get real (permanent) results - the moment you (the therapist) take it upon yourself to dictate the pace, your percentage of positive, lasting results will take a nose dive. No one's s/c likes some one else messing around in there! It's a PRIVATE PART of us! Please do some real research & check out the actual long-term results (percentage-wise) of the "therapist getting involved" approaches you are tossing around. Let's bring hypnotherapy into the present century.
I know I'm not giving any useful alternatives here, it's too complicated to do like this - talk to me if you wish.

| Nice Post Greg, but to Margaret the therapist particullarly, I will add the following. If everyone was overweight because they over ate, it would be simple, but this is not so. Bad table manners such as eating too fast can be a cause, as can a poor diet. It is important to find out from the client just what cause or causes may be inducing them to remain overweight, and once the answer is known, and only then should any attempt to assist be provided in the way of suggestions. Of course excercise is also important to burn off fat. Terry |
