Hi,
How does one choose a good hypnotherapist? Are there selection criteria or is it just trial and error? Is it like choosing a doctor....ie if you are satisfied with them then stick to it. The reason I ask is that I have previously posted that I get tired, have some hypnosis, feel great for a while and eventually fall back into the old routine. One of the replies was that I wasn't hypnotised and a "good" hypnotist should be able to achieve what I'm after in just one session. This is not quite what the hypnotherapists here in Australia have told me. I have been to 3 and they have all said that it requires repeat sessions. So I'm a little confused....how does one find a "good" hypnotherapist? There is so much I would like to achieve thru hypnosis. I think it can be limitless. Thanks, Mxxx

| This is an impossible question to answer, but any reply you get on this or any other board which disagrees with what locals have told you, is likely to be no better than a guess. Nobody can tell you how many sessions are required to achieve any goal, and nobody has the right to outguess someone else at a distance, we are not mind readers. Further, each of us will likely achieve success at differing rates, depending on experience in that particullar problem. Each of us will admit if we are honest, that it is not possible to say in advance how many sessions will be required, and if you have a need to know, forget it, we only do the difficult normally, the impossible takes too long, and is to costly for most people.. Read more on the subject, and make yourself aware of what is possible, and what is not. Then you will be in a position to find a skilled practitioner, by asking the right questions and considering the replies you get with skill and knowledge... |

How to choose a hypnotherapist for personal sessions.
I advise you to choose a hypnotherapist certified by the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (in Australia, contact the Australian Hypnotherapists'Association) both organizations maintain the highest educational and training requirements for certification. Their ethics committees process all valid complaints made against hypnotherapists certified by the ACHE or the AHA. Ethics Committee hearings and investigations can result in suspension or revocation of the hypnotherapists' certification.
Phone several hypnotherapists, ask to talk to the principal therapist rather than an office employee, inquire about the therapist's personal training (name of school-length of program)---length of service, fees and certification.
About Fees- Since hypnotherapy is a human service occupation, the fee range is broad. Fees run from $50 to $250 (U.S.dollars) per session. Sessions are from 60 to 120 minutes in length.
Remember--You are the CONSUMER! The therapist is a provider of specialized service to you. You have every right to ask questions and to receive polite and appropriate answers. |
