Hi there
Well the thing is that I want to go back to school, college
in september. Its just that I'm so scared not to be able to do well
specially right now that I'm a single mom with two kids. My whole life depends on it. The think is that recently i'm having nightmares about it. Well I called a hypnotist and she said that I should go for hypnotherapy were she will regress me and find out about my past and then she will put positive inforsement about concentrations and memory. All this sounds good to me but I'm just scared that it will not work. and if it does how do I know if I went under and that I'm actually assimilating the information that she is giving me. I'm actually scared to not succed, that it will not work.
what do you guys think ?

It appears that you have an overwhelming fear of failure and a compulsion to fail! In the Old Testament. Job said,"The things I have greatly feared have come upon me" In short, the emotional expectancy created by your focus on fearful negative thoughts and feelings has a powerful tendency to be realized. You must stop fearing the lack of result from a methodology you know little or nothing about and let someone who does know something about your problem help you.
The alternative is to live in fear and unrealized ambitions the rest
of your life. Make your choice, NOW!

Hi Xina,
With respect to Gil's advice, you need to set your priorities in order before you make any choice. You have too many branches out from the tree. What you need is a goal and a plan to get there. I don't believe hypnosis is the answer for you at the moment until you can solve some of the external problems you have. You have more than one issue to deal with and trying to worry about them all at the same time will get you nowhere. Write down the issues you have and prioritize them with the worst, first. Make a plan to resolve them one by one. I know it sounds hard, but taking the first step is the hardest part. Each step after that gets easier. Believe in yourself is the first step. No one will carry you, but yourself. Hypnosis can help you better after you have settled some issues that are bothering you. Good luck. |

| A facinating demonstration of the tortuous working of the human mind, under conditions of "fear of failure".....You begin with the statement that if you don't go back to school, your "whole life will be ruined", or words to that effect right? Write that statement down please, so that it will head your list when we are done. Now, you also say, "I called a hypnotist", which suggests you felt the need for extra support, and that hypnosis was your first choice, do I have that right?... NOW, having made that choice all by yourself, you are having cold feet when told that help is available. Don't you think it strange that this should happen? Write it down as number two on your list...Consider, YOU asked for help because it is important that you return to school if you are to have a future of any sort right? You have been told that help is available in spite of it being unlikely that you can pay what is the usual charge for such help....Now, suddenly, IT MIGHT NOT WORK eh? Looks to me like you are seeking excuses not to go back to school in spite of the statement that your whole life will be in ruins if you don't....My qestion to you would be, why are you asking US? We are distant and unable to offer you reasonable help, while such help was offered already, and you fear to accept it.... The final question for you to write down now, is, "what will happen if I go back to school, and I find that I really am a complete dummy when it comes to absorbing education information"? Then ask yourself, "how will I feel a few years down the road, when my life is in ruins, and I didn't take the opportunity to change that when I had the chance"? Finally, ask yourself, since supportive help has been offered, why am I hesitating to give it a chance to support me in my desire to feel more comforable in a classroom situation? When you have answered all these questions to your own satisfaction, you will know why you are having nightmares, and what to do about it..... |
