Hello dear hypnotherapists
I have studied a lot of books on hypnosis during the last half year. I find the subject quite interesting. Lately i have been trying to achieve self hypnosis, succeding in things like waking up at a specific time without setting the alarm, and i have also experienced catalepsy of an arm.
Now i have purchased HypnoDoc's relax, listen and learn self hypnosis. The reason is that i have just been to the dentist, and they told me that on the 19th of January they will pull one of my teeth out because there isn't enough space for the tooth.
I do not fear dentists and i am always very calm in the chair, but that doesn't mean, that i don't occasionally feel some pain. I have never had a tooth pulled before, so i would like to anaesthetize my jaw during self hypnosis, if this is possible to learn by using the above mentioned audio tool.
How would i form the best suggestion to anaesthetize my jaw? |

Hello,
I am sure the dentist has some plans to do some kind of pain care - perhaps you should discuss this with the dentist first to find out what the exact plans are. Perhaps the best way to use self hypnosis on this level would be to give yourself suggestions so as to not stress out about the procedure, before or during the extraction.
Once you know what kind of pain treatment they are going to use you can probably come up with a number of suggestions to help that process be as successful as possible. Knowing what the exact procedure is going to be will help fill in the blanks and make it easier to create those suggestions for yourself.
Please keep us informed as to your progress with Self-Hypnosis and how the audio program is working for you. I am always interested in hearing results from audio program users. Best regards, |

I believe your are right HypnoDoc, and certainly hope that the dentist provides the pain care. I expect a local anaesthetics injected, and that should take away the worst pain. But i would sure like to focus on something else than the feelings in my mouth during the pulling of the tooth. Maybe i should bring the self hypnosis guide on my mp3 player :)
I will do a follow up on your audio program, since i haven't been able to find any feedback on the forum. So far it's a very nice experience to listen to the program, i have heard it 5 times the past 24 hours. I also feel some kind of trance, and some of the signs of a light trance are pressent. That is, my eyes are very lubricated and the swallowing feels a bit different, not annoying me but a bit different. |

I only mention this as some dentists use Nitrous Oxide (a happy gas breathing apparatus) which would most likely make it very hard for someone to give themselves any suggestions. That is why I suggest you find out before hand what your dentist has in mind. Most likely, as I mentioned before, giving yourself suggestions to stay stress free, before and during the event, will most likely help the most. |

Hi Andersen, In my lifetime, I have had many dental treatments. Ater I take the anaesthetic needle(totally painless today) I begin the process of relaxation as follows. I mentally begin at my toes and slowly go over body. As soon as I discover any tension, I take ten seconds to relax that area. When I have gone over my entire body, I go back to the toes again. I discover my toes are tight and curled up. So I begin again. Over the entire body, time and time again. It's so easy and works perfectly every time. There have been occasions when I was so still, the dentist called my name and said," are you all right?" Try it, it will work for you. Remember, tension amplifies pain! Best Wishes, Gil Boyne |

Allright HypnoDoc, i haven't heard of that method yet. I suspect it to be a local area anaesthetic injected with a needle. How would you do the exact giving of suggestions, and how would you formulate suggestions to stay stress free? It will be something like i make a small circle with my thumb and index finger, then count up from 1 to 3 and then i give the suggestion? How much time is required for giving the suggestions, before i reverse the count and go fully aware?
Sounds like a very nice technique Gil, i will try that out! |

Local analgesia is easy if you have been trained in it. I always do it to the client as part of their training. You on the other hand, have taken distance training, and I know of no method of doing this at a distance. I have only trained students in this method in a face to face situation. Had one such student come to me one day, about six months after I had trained him, and he thanked me, since he had had a fear of dentists all his life. Now this was on monster of a man, and it was hard to believe he had this fear, but he assured me he would never feel that way again after using the method I had taught him, and finding the he didn't feel the needle... |
