interesting experiment i saw
a friend who knows nothing of hypnosis told someone that he was in fact a hypnotist appearing on stage regularly.
He told the person he would put him into a deep sleep the same as those hypnotists he had seen on tv.
He then told the guy he was going into hypnosis and falling asleep and the man did !!
he left him like this for several minutes muttering all kinda of nonsense about sleeeep sleeeeep and you are now in hypnosis and sleeping,when it came to bringing him out of hypnosis he didnt have a clue and just said wakey wakey.
The man awoke and said it was the most bizzare experience he had ever had !
Now my friend believes he has the power of hypnosis and is lokking for more subjects to try it on.
i tried to explain hypnosis to him and that there are procedures to follow but he just said he could do it so didnt need my help.

I once had an eleven year old boy brought to me because he was hypnotizing classmates in the school yard. The principal called his parents who brought him to me. It has already been said that anyone can induce a trance with little or no knowledge or experience. That does not earn the right to be called or to call oneself a hypnotist!
The trance is a natural state and is self-induced, usually by the belief in the words of the would-be entrancer. Trance is the key that opens the door to the deeper mind. Handle with care!

Hi Hal,
This reminds me of an interesting analogy. If a person takes a couple of flying lessons, they believe they can fly a plane. But, the hard fact is, this person may get the plane off the ground, but they may not know where to fly, know how to control the plane i an emergency, or even land. Your friend, thinking he can practice hypnosis because he thinks he hypnotized someone, is going down a dangerous path. A pilot learns how to fly through training, acquired skills, and experience. Your friend is on an ego trip trying to practice a skill which requires many many hours of education and training. The only repercussion I see from his adventures is he will only make a fool out of himself when he tries to cover up mistakes and realize he doesn't know as much as he thought he did. |
