This is a bit of a weird question but we all know dieting affects our bodies and even our mental performance, and for those of you who believe in stuff of that sort, apparently it affects things like astral projection too.
Given that dieting can affect our minds I hope don't get too much scrutiny for asking, are there any foods that are recommended to increase suggestibility or that are to be avoided as they are known to increase hypnotic resistance in someway?
It's tricky to figure out because I could assume that eating generally healthy is the thing to do but if I consume something like full of energy like peanut butter or a super food like spinach, wouldn't we then be lowering the chances of reaching the alpha-state? |

Not that I have seen. I have had people come into sessions after different meals, before meals, after lots of coffee, with their big cup of coffee, etc..
The only time I've found I will not work with someone is after they have been drinking alcohol. Session results are not reliable then. |

What about carbs? The dip in glycemia from the sugar crash during a session can cause an associative fear like feeling during hypnosis leading to phobia. Not enough time to expound further at the moment. I'll try to explain a little later. |

If a blood sugar issue led to any type of fear/phobia/emotional reaction, then that is just a behavior that can be addressed during the session so it doesn't happen again. I have worked with those. No biggie. |

From my own experience, yes, diet can effect how quickly and effortlessly you go into trance. It does not necessarily effect how deeply you can go, or what you can accomplish once there. And in all honesty, rapport is a stronger influence. The effect is so slight that any competent hypnotherapist will be able to overcome it without even noticing that it was there. It's really only during self-hypnosis (meditation) that you would ever really notice it.

Empty stomachs increase awareness and alertness - this is a natural phenomena. Full stomachs increase lethargy - once again natural. So I believe it is not what we have eaten but how much of it that is more pertinent.

There are certain foods that make you fell sluggish and others that give you vitality but I am not sure whether feeling sluggish would be conducive to enhanced relaxation as it is difficult to get to sleep sometimes after a 'sluggish' meal. I would have also thought that feeling vital does not stop you from entering into a pleasant state of relaxation. It's food for thought though. My partners is a Nutritional therapist so I will discuss with him and report back. |
