| I am thinking of paying for at least 1 session with a licensed hypnotist. Is there any criteria I should look for? I am involved with self hypnotism for weight loss and fitness goals but am wishing I knew what I should be feeling during my self sessions. I would imagine it's not going to be the same but am curious. |

How long have they been in business?
Working from home or office?
What certification/training do they have?
Request a consultation, preferably face-to-face.
Any of this points may not mean much on their own. But, taken together, these points will help you form a more accurate picture for your decision. |

Patrick's suggestions are good. I would add, how comfortable do you feel, when in their presence? How inclined do you feel to work with them? Is their confidence and enthusiasm contagious?
If you have someone that is new, inexperienced, and bumbling, but you and they have GREAT rapport, you may get far superior results to what you would get working with the guy that's been doing this for 25+ years, knows all the techniques, but for some reason you just don't feel completely comfortable in their presence.
If you can find BOTH, someone with great rapport AND years of experience, great! Otherwise, try to find a good balance between the two.

| I would also think about whether they are showing an interest in you and the reason you are going to them or telling you about themselves and how good they are. Are they making claims about their success rate etc. (it would take an awful lot of work and effort to prove some of the wild claims I have heard, most of us can't afford it) |
