Probably the oldest question around but I am completely new and foreign to this subject and don't have a clue as to what to look for in a hypnotherapist (IE: credentials, schooling, specialties, etc.)
I had the thought that this year I would shed myself of all my excess baggage, fears, etc. and this seemed to be a viable solution.
So, what am I looking for? How do you separate the wheat from the chaff? I don't want to wind up with some nut-job or a non-effective entity. Is there some sort of referral system among qualified professionals? Is there any kind of client/customer review website to warn folks away from the non-performers?
Any help would be appreciated... I'm in northern NJ, by the way. |

There are referrals systems, like the one on this site and others. But, there is not a "standardization" of the term "qualified". I'm not aware of any user-review type of website...though it might be nice if there was.
In my opinion you'll want your hypnotist -
To have an office - rather than work out of their home.
Be in business as hypnotist for some time. Real world experience with clients can be more important than training/classes/certifications.
Be able to describe to you how they would work with your presented issues in a way that you can understand.
To be someone you are comfortable talking with. Don't compromise.
If you are not satisfied after a session or two, look for someone else.
There are some very good hypnotists out there. There are some that aren't so much... Same as every other profession. |
