Strange that no postings appear under this topic, I would have thought that at least a statement of what most accredited groups believe would have been posted as soon as this board came into existance. Basically, the client comes first in all considerations, and the clients belief system shall not be challenged. This is why, when I recently replied to a posting about PLR I stated that this should only be done at the request of the client. There are many other statements of ethical behaviour, but the first is the one that all should ascribe to in my opinion, since it is the only way to help the normal client. Truth of course is also important when a client comes with beliefs that indicate a mental problem, and to go with them would harm him or her. Naturally, no false claims should be made by any practitioner, and this means that you only agree to help in cases were you have a good understanding of methodology, or are an expert in hypno suggestion in the area of concern. Hi Terry.
I had written a wonderful reply and this darn aol turned off! It is frustrating. Well, I was visiting this sight because you had noted it in one of your posts on another board. I thought I would check this one out. I looked at the list of topics and saw "Ethics" and thought, great! This is where to start! I was not surprised to find your post here. I am surprised that yours is the only one. Maybe others don't care or think too much about ethics. I believe it to be the foundation of my practice. Thank you for getting this thread started. Maybe others will care to comment. |

Well, the way I see it, the main purpose of hypnosis is to help people. I have a broad definition of "help", however.
As a moral guide, (if I ever truely learn hypnosis) I basically won't do anything that would bother my oun concience. If I start feling guilty about a particular post-hypnotic sugestion I gave someone, I'll undo it. Also, I'll try to avoid anytghing that would ruin people's lives or interfere with their career or education plans or whatever.
However, to my understanding, you can't actually make people do anything unless some part of them wats to do it. I've read that, even under really deep hypnosis, some women have still strongly objected to group or anal intercourse. I've also seen a short documentary in hypnosis (wasn't verry informative, actally) where one girl, under hypnosis, actually disobeyed an order to give the hypnosis $50 that she believed to belong to a stranger, because it bothered her concience to do so.
Therefore, hypnosis isn't so much forcing people to do things against their will, it's more getting past their inhibitions to allowing them to do things they don't have the guts to do otherwize.
and, I think as long as you have a hypnosis subject under your controll, I think you should also make sure, for everything you make them do for your oun amusement, you must also do something to help them. Ask them if they have any phobias, inhibitions, or anything about themselves that they would like to change, then make it happen. or if they have any fantasies they'd like to actually enact, irt is your right, priviliage and duty to make it happen.
Besides, I don't think you can hypnotize somene without their oun cooperation. |

Hi Terry. I think most people are like me, we dont state our ethics, simply because we belong to a society or association or other governing body and they have a code of ethics that we agree to abide by as members, these complete codes of ethics are freely available to all members of the public, via the web, by mail or even by phone, I belong to The National Council of Hypnotherapists, The National Council of Psychotherapists and The Hypnotherapy Society, all in the UK. Hope that helps in some way, all the best, Dave. |

The ethical issues that you intend to be discussed here notwithstanding, I believe that the ethics of using the word "accredited" (as applies to hypnosis, hypnotherapy and/or NLP training and/or "groups") needs some treatment here. I've noticed the terms "accredited" and/or "accreditation" tossed around quite a bit around these forums, and I fear the reader will be misled. So, knowing that it will anger some, I nevertheless offer the following...
