Hello folks
This is my first post, so, here goes. This clearly is a contentious subject. Here are my views.
I believe there exists something we might call a genetic memory. By this I mean that certain experiences of our direct ancestors somehow resulted in changes in their genetic material that were then passed on to their progeny. The result is that we sometimes seem to see or feel things not directly related to our lives (some researchers suggest the success of the Neanderthals in the absence of effective speech was in part due to a genetic memory).
If you discuss this issue with people who are researching their family histories in depth, many will tell they experience feelings of being there in places they have never been before but where their ancestors lived.
A few years back I had occasion to travel through a part of the country where my brother's research indicated some of our ancestors lived. When driving through this area I never felt any special feelings like those described above. My brother has never been able to document any family connection with this area except through family anecdote.
About this time I also had occasion to drive through another area fifty or so miles from the first. During this drive I felt a very strong feeling of what I can only describe as homesickness.
Unknown to me at the time was that my brother had been able to document family connections with this second area.
There are other possible explanations, of course. The feelings of researchers they had been there before might mean simply they felt good about being where their ancestors had lived. My feeling of homesickness about the area I was driving through might simply have been because it was a pleasant place and my thoughts were it might be a nice place to live.
Hypothesizing a genetic memory is a consistent model for explaining many of the mysteries surrounding this whole issue of past lives.

| There is SOOO much information in our genes and DNA. I've been travelling around a bit and a few months ago went to a course in Hawaii and did a ceremony with a tribal elder. He drew the groups attention to this info, in particular our ancesotry and heritiage. I mean, you may have been born in a certain country, and your parents may be of different races.. or at least somewhere along the line, even if you can trace your ancesotry several generations, i'm sure a 1000 years back there would be a cross between different races/tribes. It's important to recognise this and forgive any conflict that has been stored (as tribes have fought in the past with eachother). And that's just one layer. What you now mention is even more complex, because i feel your talking about a relationship between something physical (genes) to something spiritual.. your soul. Would our genes be carried down from our soul.. perhaps. Perhaps that is how we actually tap into our past lives. I think hypno on this level would be great - the tribal elder in hawaii only took us to those memory through a pretty intense group meditation. Interesting post. |
