Hello everyone,I'm really looking for a good hypnotherapist in my area (san diego california). I currently suffer from a type of OCD called Scrupoulosity which is really gotten pretty bad. From all of my research it seems that Gil Boyne is one of the best out there, so I really would appreciate if any of you could point me to someone in my area of residence (or anyone in the southern california area) that has studied under Gil Boyne, and because this is a religious OCD I really would feel more comfortable with someone that is from my religious faith (catholic). I Have decided to go the route of hypnotherapy because I would like to try to get better without much medication.
This thing has really gotten very bad with me to the point where it has disturbed every area of my life from sleeping to work, and the stress pains in my midsection and chest have gotten very bad.
I would appreciate any leads you folks could offer as far as anyone close to my area.

Here is a link to an association Boyne started. That should get you to someone who practices similar to him. You'll want someone who practices gestalt type techniques. That technique is often grouped into a methodology commonly referred to as analytical hypnosis.
Gil is no longer practicing himself. He is teaching in London.

Hello again Patrick and thanks for the link but when I emailed them I specifically asked for someone from my faith and they gave me 3 people but none were from my faith.

| Patrick because the OCD is a form of scrupulosity so it is hitting my faith , so would feel more comfortable with a hypnoherapist that is from my faith . |

To a good hypnotist, the details of the behavior will not matter. They can get those from you. A behavior is a behavior is a behavior. The emotional content of the behavior is what the hypnotist works with. That will be separate from the details around the behavior. I'm not sure if that will make sense to you or not....
I've worked with, and around, many different issues around a varying beliefs/religions. In fact, I've seen where too much information/knowledge about a person's details can cloud the perspective/judgment of the hypnotist.
I hope you find someone you're comfortable with. But, if not, I hope you can consider what I'm saying. |

| Patrick, I did see another hypnotherapist before this for a free consultation and I was very comfortable with him(even though he isnt from my faith), and it seemed like he hit the nail right on the head as far as understanding my problem. I just might go back to him after I get my physical checkup and labwork done. |

Patrick after seeing a part of your post on this forum, :"Ah, religion - the best hypnotist of them all." I definately will not go with your advice and I will 100% for sure look for a christian or catholic hypnotherapist. I sure am glad that i saw that post by you.
I was told by many people that hypnotherapy can be dangerous but now I can clearly understand how anti religious feelings can be used to try to sway people against religion.

LOL and vice versa.
A good hypnotist is not going to attempt to sway the client in any direction. They will work within the client's belief system.
The hypnotists belief system has no place in the professional office.
By the way, you're mistaking an objective educated comment on hypnosis/behavior mod/persuasion techniques as being "anti-religious".
Study hypnosis/behavior mod/persuasion further and you'll see the basic ingredients are repetition, strong emotion and authority figures. You'll see this is very prevalent in politics, sales/advertising, the military, and religion - like it or not. The techniques are there. How the individual uses them is another matter.
To say "hypnotherapy can be dangerous" is just innocent ignorance of the facts.
I'm sure the person that would believe this statement experiences fear (strong emotion) by the statement, has heard it repeatedly (repetition) and likely heard it from an authority figure (in a relative sense).
I grew-up Mormon. My parents are now four-square christian. In-laws are devout Catholics. I've spent time with a few different religions and am familiar with them. Parents and in-laws were not happy about my career choice at first.. well for a few years. Over time, they spent some effort to learn about what I actually do, rather than continuing with their previously held beliefs/fears. (I did not try to convince them of anything - would have been pointless). Eventually they saw was it is and isn't and are quite impressed with hypnosis and see it's affects in our everyday lives.

Humbler, hypnosis can only bring about change that YOU want to happen. For this reason, a hypnotist (at least a good one) will not attempt to influence you in areas where you do not want to be influenced.

| Ram, Since my problem is scrup , I must make sure that I see someone I can totally trust and can empathize with my problem as this is a very serious matter to me. Patricks post was the final convincer for me to seek a hypnotist from my own faith. Ram, Thanks but I cant take any chances at all with this problem as too much is on the line for me. |
