Hey everyone it's me again :). I know you were wondering when I was going to make another thread, lol. Lately I have had great success with getting into hypnosis easily. I set up a self hypnosis trigger using the light switch technique I learned from studying Jerry Kein. And I have to say, I'm impressed with it so far. It's never been this easy for me to go into hypnosis.
My question is how can I deepen the level of hypnosis associated with the trigger? Basically, I count down from 3 to 1 and then lift and drop my finger on my thigh which sends me into hypnosis. It's a very light state though and I know there is a way to go deeper. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've made myself one audio where I deepened the state and then used my trigger to anchor the depth but it didn't work as well as I had hoped. |

I use a finger-pinch to self-induce. When I want to be deeper, I taught myself to deepen with repeated (slowly) pinches.
Do you know what 'being deeper' feels like to you? |

I am by no means an expert, but some techniques that helped me:
With your eyes closed and relaxing, slowly take in a deep breath, hold it, and gently open your eyes. Count to 3, then allow your eyes to close back down as you breath out. Repeat about three times. With each repeat, you will find your eyes will only open part of the way, or not at all.
Matrixman also had the idea (on his blog) that instead of holding your breath, when you open your eyes, use your chosen re-induction trigger. Allow yourself to relax down for up to a minute, then repeat the opening of the eyes and using the trigger again. Unless I've missed my guess, doing it this way associates the trigger not just to the last depth you were at, but associates it to the quicker pace caused naturally by the eye opening and closure.
Afterwards, just keep your eyes closed, and turn your attention to your eyes. Think about relaxing them a bit more. When you feel them relax a bit more, concentrate on that feeling. Imagine that feeling spreading like a gentle wave, from the tope of your head down through to your fingers and toes, taking you down twice as relaxed as before. Repeat about three times.
I've also used the mantra, "Relax the mind, and the body will follow." Instead of focusing on how much your body is/isn't relaxing, repeat this silently to yourself until you find yourself drifting, then just allow your thoughts to drift in and out. At least for me, there is something about the phrase that just clicks, on both a conscious and subconscious level. Your mileage may vary. |

(somnabulistic state) How would you know if you was in such a state?
If you have never been in the somnabulistic state before and your working by yourself - How would you be able to know if you was or was not in the so-called somnabulistic state?
What happens if you was reaching that level and just didn't notice it?

If it has consciousness it's already in a trance. |

Well I would build in some tests to my audio so that I would know if I reached somnabulism. That is what I'm working on right now. I've also heard that the secret to the method I'm doing is that you have to be taken lower than somnabulism for the trigger to work best which would cause some problems for me. |

Tests can be tricky when doing them on ones self. But.. hypjunkie is pretty persistent and driven. If anyone can, it's you. |

Well thank you Patrick. Could you recommend some tests for me to do? I was thinking of using an arm raise test where I would suggest there is a balloon with helium tied to my arm. Would that be sufficient for testing if I'm in somnambulism? |

The widely accepted test for somnambulism is suggested amnesia... "fading numbers... That can be tough to do on oneself and is not even consistently reliable in a formal session. :/ I'll message you. |

it's not easy to reach a somnambulist state and not even necessary. If you are interested in self hypnosis then going too deep can take away the enjoyment, because after the trance you won't remember much. "unless specifically ordered to remember something. |

I trust the recommendations and opinions of those I've studied under. All of whom suggest reaching the somnambulistic state before doing any work in hypnosis. They have proven to me that there is an incredible power within the somnambulistic state where suggestions are retained and used to produce extraordinary results.
I cannot tell if I've been able to reach somnambulism or not with the use of my hypnosis recordings. Obviously its hard to set up tests to know for sure. However with the results I've achieved through the use of my hypnosis recordings, I believe that I have reached that hypnotic state. And I can get there reliably.
I've turned my focus towards a more challenging goal of getting myself into the Esdaile state for healing work. I'll let you know how that goes :) |

One of the fundamentals, that seems to be missing, the basic foundational understanding of repetitive practice, the more you do the same set of task, and in this case the practice of self hypnosis, the stronger the effects, just like going to the gym and lifting weights, the more more you lift over time the stronger you get, the same applies to hypnosis, the more time you practice going through a formal practice, "the deeper the state", the state is only a gate way way, into a more focused level of absorption, of specific suggestions etc.
There really is only one state you need that is consciousness and awareness of it's direction. |
If it has consciousness it's already in a trance. |

I've been using a repetitive practice with my hypnosis. I have an audio that is 30 minutes of dedicated practice for my induction method. It's because of my repetitive practice that I believe I've been able to reach a state of somnambulism through the use of my recordings. And I will continue practicing to develop more and more power with my hypnotic suggestions/adventures. |

I just wanted to post an update in case anyone has been following along. I have successfully reached and tested for somnambulism and for the first time ever, just yesterday, I was able to reach the Esdaile state and successfully emerge myself with a recording I've made. Now let me be clear, if you don't know what you're doing DO NOT TRY TO REACH THE ESDAILE STATE. I highly doubt you'd be able to make it anyway without proper training. However, if you do know what you're doing and you're wondering what is possible with hypnosis by making your own recordings I hope that I'm a reminder that anything is possible. It took a little over a year of off and on work with hypnosis in order to make my first successful attempt at reaching the Esdaile state. It was more than worth it and to date is one of the coolest things I've done in my life, in my opinion.
And to all those wondering, yes, the Esdaile state feels amazing!!! |

Nice work, hypnjunkie18 :) I know many people would have quit trying months ago. Your persistence DID pay off! I think the Esdaile state is impossible to describe to someone who has not been in it. Enjoy! |

Would you be willing to share some of how you achieved this and what test(s) you used?
This is something I'm working on. I know it's going to be a long road, so any help I can get from someone who's been there is appreciated.
