Hi there, new guy here with a question or two for your opinion:
I have had good results with memory improvement, and non smoking mp3's I have downloaded, and now I am in the process of making my own recordings. I had also been to a professional hypnotherapist for the smoking.
There are a number of posts in this section regarding which to use in the recording, "You may", "you will", "you feel" etc., instead of "I am", "I feel" etc. I have a script I am re writing and have ended up with an induction in the 2nd person, ("I will now count down from 10 to 1 and each time you hear a number" etc.) and the suggestion in 1st person: "When I .... I feel ....". Before the suggestion section I have "Repeat these words in your mind as you hear them:" to keep the continuity between the difference in perspective. Can anyone see any possible problems with this approach?
My second question is how important is repetition of the suggestions once the induction is finished? My second question is how important is repetition of the suggestions once the induction is finished? Just kidding! My first draft had the suggestions repeated and the wording changed slightly each time. But when I reviewed it I felt that this was unnecessary, and could be detrimental if there were subtle inconsistencies, or if there was the possibility the literal subconscious could mis-interpret the suggestions. So I have gone through and made the suggestions as brief and direct as possible without making them blunt statements. Do you think I should have to repeat sentences or paragraphs twice to make the suggestions more effective?
Thank you.

I would use the first person, I am, I feel, especially when you are having them repeat the suggestions, you can even say to repeat it exactly, and mention thast you will be saying I am, etc...
It's VERY good to repeat suggestions, Dave Elman talks about this type of compounding in his book. When you are repeating something with a client in your chair, it may seem like you are over doing it, but I have asked and there has never been a complaint that it was too repetitious.
Fopr a recording you might say it once then make a loop out of that and repeat it maybe 15-20 times or more. I like to repeat a suggestion several times, then come back to it again later and repeat it several times again. When I teach someone self hypnosis, and provide them with a suggestion for reinduction, I tend to repeat the suggestion 3-4 times, go off somewhere else then return back to the suggestion again. I may do that 3-4 times, and have found it to be very effective!
The more you r repeat a suggestion the better it works! |

Thanks for that Mark. That’s a very good idea looping the recording.
I checked out your websites, they are well done. Past life regression fascinates me and I’d love to do some myself in the future.
I have another question regarding a suggestion that I had not worded correctly. I am using the suggestions to help my Judo among other things, and one area where I felt I could improve was the level of relaxation while free fighting (called randori), for a number of reasons. One is because if your muscles are tense and tight and contracted you cannot move them as fast as when they are relaxed. An explosive movement is slower when muscles are tense. Also, with a grip on the other guy, when you do go to move in, if the arms are rigid with tension it will “telegraph” the movement, signalling to the other guy you are about to move in and do something.
So in the first draft I had “When I fight I will be relaxed and alert and focused”, and more, I had mentioned the word relaxed a number of times. It surprised me that writing and editing the script seemed to improve the areas I was working on before I had recorded and listened to anything, there were comments from the people I was training with who noticed increases in speed, one guy who was very surprised when I threw him (we both know he is a lot better than me usually) and there were other changes as well. With the initial positive result I am looking forward to the future!
But one thing puzzled me, during randori I seemed to be a bit lazy, the attacks and counters were fast as per the suggestions, but otherwise I was slow, I seemed tired but still mentally alert. A few days later I have wondered if the “relax during randori” suggestions have been taken too literally. Especially when during the induction the word “relax” was used a lot to induce the trance. I have since removed the word from the current draft suggestion section, but not the induction, but I would like to know is this doing enough to counter the unwanted effect. Does the subconscious know what I am trying to achieve and will it replace the old suggestion with the new one accordingly, which is practically the same with a word left out? Or is it that literal that I have to make a new suggestion to counter the old one? Was relaxed, alert and focused a poor choice of word to use?
Thank you.

I think I'd use a combination, relaxed but even faster than before.... and even include your suggestions to avoid telegraphing your moves. Instant speed when you need it while remaining relaxed. Also, suggestions you give yourself are very powerful, as you will let them into your subconscious mind without allowing the critical factor to filter the suggestions, after all, you have nothing to fear about yourself!
I think what you were experiencing when you wrote the suggestions was conversational hypnosis or waking hypnosis, whatever you want to call it. Suggestions that are acceptable can make it into your subconsciious mind even when you are not in trance, under certain conditions! |
