Hey everyone. I'm a musician and am trying to tap into composition ability. From what I've read about composers I like it seems like things just "come to them" and they have a recognition of patterns with words and musical notes and rhythm that most people don't, similar to what the main character in "Good Will Hunting" had with mathematics.
So I figured hypnosis would be able to alter and enhance your abilities in areas like this. I'm not an expert on the brain, but I imagine that everyone of normal intelligence has parts of their brain that if were coordinated differently or allowed to perform differently they would be a genius in some area. Like with regression, everyone has a photographic memory in some way, it's just not everyone has access to the information that is stored in their brain all the time.
Anyone have any experience with this? I downloaded a simple creativity booster induction a week or so ago but it's not much of a hypnotic induction and just seems to give mild suggestions about letting creativity come to you, etc. I haven't had much success in the past with hypnosis actually, reaching what I believe to be only a light trance state, so I'm considering going to a professional. It's a tough situation as I truly believe in the power of hypnosis but haven't yet been able to use it to my advantage. It's a worrisome thought that I may never be able to. |

For someone like me creativity comes with my mood state. I'm a bass player, but I'm transitioning the guitar now and learning theory, so I'm basically a musician. For the few songs I composed, they "came to me" when I was depressed, or in a down mood. I remember one of the first ones happened when I and my girlfriend split. I think, in addition to knowing theory well and listening (with a lot of focus) to songs in one's style, with constant practice, with an altered or heightened state of mind, yes i think you should be able get into a composition feel. |

When I compose music it seems more like I just found it out there, and I continue to go through it making changes until it 'sounds right'. There has been some work by several people who have recordings that involve returning to a past life to retrieve creative abilities and bring them forward. I really like the one by Barrie Konicov, though there is another interesting one that was created by David Quigley. I have actaully heard David play the piano, and he plays very well, yet he claims that he brought that ability forward from a previous lifetime. The same could be done with composition. In terms of composing, some people learn the theory and write it down and others play and record the music, really depends on your background and the style of music you are working with. While I have a Masters in Music Composition, I usually tend to play it then write it down, the more traditional approach is to hear it and write it down from your head.
It's more about finding the inspiration to get started, once I get started, the music writes itself. If you have trouble going into trance, you might check out some brainwave entrainment type audio. Recently I have become fascinated with Tom Kenyon, www.TomKenyon.com who is a composer and a hypnotherapist. His tracks take me down into a wonderful state very quickly, but then it doesn't take much more than closing my eyes and recalling the memory of a deep state of hypnosis for me to get there.
Composing music is like going into hypnosis, you need to allow it to happen, do not force it, just relax and let it flow! |
