Hi
About three years ago I was Hypnotized to stop smoking. I was 30 years old and had been a heavy smoker all my life.
The hypnotist put me in a state of kind of dreamy meditation and spoke through head phones. He took me through a scenario of me visualising myself being healthy in the future and throwing cigarettes into the river, and what I would be like if I didn’t stop smoking, and to choose to be healthy etc.
This all worked fine, and I have not smoked since and my life style dramatically changed, exercising etc etc.
I am happy with this, however I feel it has changed my personality slightly, making me slightly numb and desensitised, is this possible? Could I be blocking emotions? Sometimes I feel I just switch off, like I did to stop the craving to smoke.
My main problem now is sex, I have absolutely no desire to have sex, I have been highly sexed all my life and at the time of hypnotised I had a few emotional issues as I was splitting up with a partner and our relationship had became based round sex and I think that during the hypnosis a few things or wires have been crossed and I have switched this emotion off? Is this possible? How should I resolve it?
It is not a physical problem, I still think about it, still fancy women but even if I have a beautiful woman naked in front of me, I am thinking to myself I can’t be bothered! This is not normal and given how active I have been up to the day I was hypnotised, I think its gotta be linked. Ever since the hypnotism this has been such a problem, the desire is totally gone, but physically I am fine, I feel there’s just a switch that needs flicking back on! DO you think I should go back to the hypnotist? I’m scared he may mess it up more? What do you advise? A Dr wont be able to help am sure, I am desperate to be fixed.

I would not recommend going back to the same hypnotist.
Yes, removing a behavior like smoking (coping mechanism) can cause previous emotional issues to act-up in different ways. I call them "negative motivators" that influence the "positive motivator" (smoking)
If the positive motivator is removed and not replaced while a negative motivator has been linked to it.. a person is left with that negative motivator behavior and will react to that in different ways. It sounds like you may be repressing it.
Having the negative motivator behavior/emotion addressed should be like flicking the switch you're talking about.
I'd recommend finding someone around you that practices analytical hypnosis.. or hypno-analysis. Are you in the Chicago area by chance? I think I've heard of someone there that does these headphone sessions. |

That sounds like a reasonable thing except the hypnotist he saw would appear incapable of dealing with it effectively. He is limited to suggestion based hypnosis which ignores the potential affects that energy experienced. |
