Hello;
Just wondering if someone can help shed light on an experience that happened to me a couple of years ago.
My sister had invited me to a meditation group and I went hoping to get a little benefit from some relaxation. Half way through the session, the "leader" switched gears and started drumming. I wondered what he was doing but went along even though the drumming was quite annoying.
Soon after the drumming started and with our eyes closed, he asked us to go back into the past. At this point I thought to myself "why would I want to think about the past couple of years?"(which by the way, had been quite traumatic.)
As I was thinking this, he asked us to go up into the air and then come down again where we would find ourselves in front of a bridge. I felt uncomfortable with all of this and resisted a bit as it was not what I had expected out of the evening. He then asked us to cross the bridge and then to look down at our feet.
A split second before he said that, I looked at my feet. I was wearing some crude moccasins and felt like I had been transported to another time and place! I was inside someone else's body and I could feel and sense everything this person did, yet my thoughts were my own.
The girl was about 13 years old and wearing very crude skins with straight black hair tied down with a thin band around her head. She/I was very dark skinned.
There was a vivid scene before me....some crude, rounded skin huts strewn around a large meadow beside a gentle river. The river lead out of very tall, sharp mountains. I have travelled the Rockies where I live and never seen such mountains. They were like the mountains that I have seen pictures of in Asia. Many other children were running around playing yet I felt that I was not one of them, that I did not belong.
I was picking dandelions. I thought this strange as the scene seemed very ancient yet there were no dandelions in N. America(where I live) until recent history. What was more strange, I thought, that I was not picking the flowers or the greens but the stems for their sticky sap.
As I was called back to reality by the meditation leader, I felt a combination of sheer terror to homesickness. Ever since that time, this experience has puzzled and nagged at me. I have never really believed in such notions as past life or even hypnosis, however, I long to have this experience again.
Sorry for the long-winded story but I was hoping that someone could shed light on the meaning of this experience. I was not sleeping so it could not have been a dream. I don't consider myself someone who is prone to suggestion and I was totally not expecting this sort of experience that night.

Meditation and hypnosis are pretty much the same animal. Add to that the rhythmic drumming and you have a hypnosis experience.
I don't know about past lives. I do know the mind is capable of vivid imagination coupled with strong emotional associations.
From what you describe you were only being vaguely led in the experience - not directed to see crude moccasins, etc..? |

Thanks for your valued response Patrick;
The issue for me is that I had only expected to meditate that night. I was not expecting to be hypnotized.
Also, anyone who knows me knows I have no imagination whatsoever.
Third, the drumming was very annoying to me and I was very uncomfortable and resisting the whole thing.
In addition, it seemed that I looked at my feet before the "Shaman" suggested to look down. He said, "Now, look at your feet". It was then that I saw that I was wearing moccasins.
The experience seemed so real to me, frighteningly real! After some years have passed, I really long to have another experience like that again.
If it was my mind just playing tricks, then it was a very good one!
All joking aside, I am hoping that someone can help me solve this mystery. |

| You should go consult a hypnotherapist that specializes in Past Life Regression. It is quite possible that they could take you back to the experience to explore it some more and make more sense out of it. |

| Interesting that you looked at your feet before you were instructed to do so. I'd have to agree with geevee, find a good hypnotherapist who specializes in past life regression and explore this some more. |
