Hello,
A few quick questions... You say Doctor and procedure - these are not terms used for a Hypnotherapist. Was this in a medical Doctor's office? Or are you saying she went to a Hypnotherapist and was hypnotized? If so, how was that against her will? Did she go seeking to forget the person or for some other reason? |

In order to answer your question, more information would be needed. What country was this in? How old is she? The parents hypnotized her, or had her hypnotized by someone? Is she as concerned about this as you are? Has she forgotten or been made to change her mind by the withholding of tuition?

If it is just an amnesia hypnosis trick, it can be worked around and probably won't last very long on it's own.
Personally I find it hard to believe that she has just 'forgotten' about him. There is likely something else involved. If we can agree to disagree about that part of things for now, we'll see if there is something you can do to help her.
Was the person the parents brought in a hypnotist? Doctor? What? Can she give you the name of the person the parents used? Does she remember the process the person used? What was said? Was medication used?

I don't know many of the details right now because i am out of state on vacation, i am pretty sure he was just a regular hypnotist , and to be honest i always thought hypnotism was a load of crap.(sorry) no she doesn't remember the process , and she talked to her fiancee last night, she remebered a few things , although i dont know if that helps or not, she is in class at the moment and i cant call her , but when i can get more information i will post it , thank you for your help |

Speaking of "loads of crap" - this thread has a real odor to it.
So she was ambushed by her parents in Iowa, who (over the holidays) brought in a Hypnotist to "make her" forget a guy she was going to marry. If she didn't forget then she was going to be cut off from her college funding. The session was a success but she is talking to him on the phone.
I would say you are missing quite a lot of information. It sounds more like an intervention for drug or alcohol abuse. They don't use Hypnosis for this situation. They do use emotional elements of family and friends in the home environment to "convince" the individual to change their present course onto a new path. Could this be what happened?

I agree HypnoDoc... I'm sorta waiting for the punchline...
I am hoping she will find some of this after getting additional info from her friend. 18 years old, going to school and engaged is not an ideal situation. I believe there is much more to it. It's all second-hand info at this point.
No personal disrespect toward you, hageej. Just hear a lot of stories here, and in the office, that don't pan-out. Giving you the benefit of the doubt to see what more you are told. If things are as you believe, I'll do what I can to help.

Okay let me explain this a little more in detail, She has been dating this guy for a year and a few months her family has never liked him because he doesnt believe in god and they are really REALLY devout Mormons, they have tried to break her and him up for the last few months, telling her things like it is him or her family things like that and it didnt work ,so her grandparents and parents hired a hypnotherapist or at least i am guessing she said his name tag said Doctor F They told her unless she went through with it they would cut off her tuition to college, the reason she was talking to her fiancee was because i called him and put them on a three way conversation as she instructed me to before the events unfolded, look i know it sounds like a bad short story or something and if i wasnt a friend of hers i wouldnt have believed it , and thank you , believe me i have no reason to make this stuff, she said he didnt give her any medication, it was done in her livivng room, i dont know if this helps any but thank you |

I dont know what happened personally because i have left on vacation to virginia to see my family but
I dont think so , she literally had no idea who he was when she called me after it was done, and she isnt a very good liar so i would have been able to tell if it was a lie or not, |

Ah, religion - the best hypnotist of them all. I was honestly guessing this. So a dysfunctional/controlling family situation. I wonder what was driving her to marry so soon.
You're not sure if it was a hypnotherapist? Can you ask her to find out this guys full name? I'll contact him.
Sounds like a lot of pressure put on her to change her mind. It's also called manipulation. No formal hypnosis needed.
It would be good to hear directly from her. I understand you care about your friend and are worried for her. I would like to know she is as motivated as you are?
I would be interested in hearing what her perception is of her memory both now and prior to this home intervention. The focus then would be to gain her perspective - free from outside influence. That would leave her able to make a choice based upon her own current beliefs.
I would not be interested in re-creating the old fiance status of the guy as I suspect it would have been artificially affected by the controlling nature of her parents beliefs and actions. She would be left to re-create that if she so chooses.
How's all that sound? |

That sounds good to me, and thank you for believing me , i asked her what his name was and she said she didn't know all she knew was his name tag which said Doctor F and she really cant ask her parents they told her it was for some weight loss crap, i am getting more from her as quickly as i can but i am somewhat worried about her well being from a mental standpoint , if you give me some suggestions on how to approach her on the subject i would be eternally grateful, if you think i am doing her a disservice please tell me |

Have you seen her face to face since the intervention?
Tell her you're worried about what you understand happened and how it may be making her feel. Let her know help is available if she wants it. Let her know you don't want to change her mind again, you just want to make sure she's Ok, and happy?
I would suspect she is not very trusting of others and possibly hypnotists in particular? If she is at all interested in help, let her know I grew up mormon. My dads side of the family are all mormon. I am not. Send her to my web page if that helps. Maybe that will let her be more comfortable.
And as this is turning into more personal information, let's switch to email. You can email me at patrick@glancyhypnosis.com

Update on this for HypnoDoc -
The young lady was lied to by the parents and told it was for a weight loss session. The hypnotist, with a name tag that said something like "Dr. F" gave suggestions to forget.
They should be wearing off soon on their own.
Would really like to talk to "Dr. F". |

I have had people ask me to help them forget things. Knowing this will probably not last, I tend to shy away from that and work on reducing the emotional impact of the memory. |
