I apologize if this subjuct has been discussed. I looked at all the past post topics and did not see it (please direct me if there is a reference to this issue.) I received an inquiry from a 60 year old woman who suffers from sleepwalking. The incidence is inconsistent and questions regarding her circumstances surrounding the sleepwalking seem to be when she becomes very fatigued (as in worn out from spending time with her toddler aged grandchildren.) What is interesting is that there seems to be a familial relationship to this behavior. She reports that her Father was a sleepwalker and her 55 year old Brother also sleepwalks. I recommended that she seek a medical opinion to rule out physiological conditions such as sleep apnea. Odd things can happen when the brain is deprived of oxygen. What is a reasonable approach with hypnosis and sleepwalking? (particularly in light of the hereditary connection.) I'm interested if regression may be helpful? I am not treating this individual, but have a real interest in your professional opinions - or, if someone has experienced a similar condition. Thank you. |

Hello, I've worked with sleepwalking and sleep eating successfully. And, it often seems to be associated with stress level, as you described above. First thing to check is medication side effects. Better to look there before moving forward.
Of course, the first issue to address is the fatige and avoiding it. After that, it sounds like she has a belief (that she inherited it) to address. Can apply gestalt, age regression, reframe, and other techniques. Basic suggestion for sound, restful sleep would be good too.

Sleepwalkers make excellent hypnosis clients and tend to enter into hypnosis quickly. In fact there is a term for the type of person that is able to easily reach a deep state of hypnosis, somnambulistic, which means sleepwalker! |
