Hello lomax,
As well as Hypnotherapy there are many simple 'common sense' ways to reduce stress & anxiety.. like going for a walk in a natural envirnomnent, yoga, taichi, swimming & exercise in general. And making a 'shopping list' of things that you could do to change your lifestyle. Some things may be possible immediately, other things could be long term goals. If you are smoking, drinking or taking drugs think about quitting. If you are not eating or sleeping well there may be changes you can make there. Too much TV viewing, too much work, too much exercise, too much sex, too much of anything may also be factors. Hypnotherapy is not a magic wand that will make everything change in a flash without some effort from you.

Stress and anxiety are the result of fear. Fear of failure, fear of not enough time, fear of not finding the right person inyour life - well the list in endless, but it's always a fear or set of fears that are at the root of stress.

First of all for a quick fix, when you weel the effects of stress or anxiety do some belly breathing. Take in a slow deep breath in through your nose. Fill up what appears to be your stomach forst and then the rest of yoru lungs. Hold this breath to your won slow and silent count of 10. Then exhale slowly through your mouth. Do this at least three times. The feelings of stress should lessen a great deal.

For long term results, while in hypnosis, several times face whatever it is that you are fearful of. Do this until the feeling of fearfulness (stress) is no longer present. Then, while still in hypnosis, accept the truth that everything in your life works it's self out for the positive.

Hypnosis can be very helpful in dealing with anxiety and stress so I find myself wondering if you might want to try it again either with your original therapist or with another hypnotherapist (if you've not already tried this). I am not trying to disparage your original therapist in any way. It's just that if you suffer from anxiety and stress you may take a little more time to get comfortable with your therapist and different therapist do things different ways so it might be worthwhile to pursue hypnosis further.

Another suggestion is to look into Emotional Freedome Techniques (EFT). You can download a free manual from the founder of EFT to learn the basics. I'm not sure if it is proper ettiquet to paste a web page here so I'll just tell you that if you are interested you can use any search engine and enter the full name of the technique and you should find Gary Craig's site (he's the founder of EFT).

Good Luck,

What are your future fears
Could living in the present help to offset your future fears
Have a really great day

Anxiety covers a lot of ground, but I have no need to probe further, since the most direct method applies to all areas. did your practitioner direct you to relax, and train you in relaxation for use between sessions? If not they failed you. Did your practitioner suggest that during sleep you would dream of one of the causes of that anxiety, and remember it on awakening so that each problem could be dealt with one at a time? If not, this should have been done. Now I am not going to say that this must be a strict routine, since others may have developed some better method, but since you failed to tell us exactly what took place, I am working in the dark to explain why you are still suffering, when you should be much better....Terry

Keep a worry book. Get a worry book and take it around with you. Every time you notice yourself worrying, think about what you can do about the worry at that moment. If you can do something about it, then do it. If not, simply put it your worry book and take ten minutes every night to look over your worries-just worry solidly for that ten minutes.

Thats an interesting way to install worry- read about everything you worry about then go to sleep- I think writing the things that worry you is a good idea, as that gets it out side of you, and on to paper, yet reading just before going to sleep is not a good idea, as you will create a conditioned response after a few days so you will associate worry to going to sleep- which is not good-

If it has consciousness it's already in a trance.

Like a few other said, exercise will do wonders for stress and anxiety... Nothing helps me calm down better than running through a winding forest path in the early morning.

I never felt super stressed, and i never could relate to 'anxiety' until i was in my late 20's... then all of the sudden i started to understand what others where talking about. Funnily enough it was taking coffee out of my dient that actually made me feel more relaxed. I wasn't a heavy coffee drinker, just 2 a day.. but now i only have it on an occasion. See if this will help you, also any other stimulants in your diet - take them out!.
