| I was hoping to poll the regular posters on this site and begin a discussion about theoretical orientation. I know that some hypnotherapists tend toward an analytic or neofreudian sort of orientation, and I've met others who are influenced by Jung. There are even practictioners out there who stick by an empirical Cognitive-Behavioral framework. Furthermore, beyond the issue of general orientation, people differ on their theories of how hypnosis works i.e. a dissociated experience viewpoint, a dissociated control viewpoint, or a social-cognitive viewpoint. Would anyone like to discuss their personal viewpoint, who trained or influenced them, and what sort of research or personal experiences helped them solidify their view? As a young student I would find this sort of information extremely valuable. |

I lean toward a CBT type of framework. Depending on the person being hypnotized and the techniques used, I believe hypnosis can work in different viewpoints.
Training and influence for myself - Elman, Kein, Boyne, lots of continuing education classes, seminars, researching all the clinical studies I can find (I keep copies of most of them here - www.glancyhypnosis.com/abstract.html ) and a little over 1,500 logged one-on-one hypnosis sessions.
