I was wondering if anyone on this board uses the Chevreul Pendulum much in their practice of hypnotim or self-hypnotism? I find it extremely helpful and it seems clear LeCron taught us some of it's almost miricle like uses.

Yes... I do.... I teach a class on Self-Hypnosis and use it for the purpose of showing the Mind - Body connection. It is very effect in assisting people to be come aware of how thoughts can and do affect the physical. I might add, I make a point they understand there is nothing magical or mystical about the Pendulum. Fast Trance..... Have a great day..........

But do you ever use the pedulum to show the subconscious is capable of directly answering questions but to it? Being able to directly communicate with the subconscious seems like an invaluable tool if used for nothing more that feedback on how well hypnotic suggestion is accepted and the willingness of the scm to carry it out.

The principle of the pendulum is fascinating. It applies to Dowsing [water divining] too.
Every morning I do "the soong" [sinking] exercises before doing the Qigong & Taijiquan routines. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine & the Yin - Yang theory everything has an opposite reaction - ties in with the scientific ideas of centrifugal & centripetal forces. The soong movements arise from shifting weight from L to R foot smoothly & coordinating waist turning so that the whole body moves as a single unit & the arms swing in pendulum arcs. From doing this training daily at sunrise our Chinese ancestors over thousands of years discovered that Qi [Bioenergy] increases in quality & quantity improve health & well-being. This how Chinese Martial Artists have developed extraordinary skills. I began training with Teo Ah Keng [my Taiji father] in Singapore in 1971. My email is jlindsaysmith@hotmail.com

"The fact that we use some kind of instrument, like a rod or PENDULUM is helpful but incidental. The real work is done by the physical body, in the knowledge that our mind is not separate from our body, neither is it separate from the infinite intelligence that created it and gives it life." [page 41, The Complete Guide to Dowsing, the definitive guide to finding underground water., George Applegate, Element , 1997.]

So what is the connection? ...dowsing + pendulum + soong [sinking/swinging ] exercises + hypnosis... The acupuncture point called Kidney 1 [Yongquan] is in the balls of the feet. Walking stimulates the kidney wellpoint by putting pressure on the balls of the feet, turning the hips & squeezing the kidneys ... like a hydraulic pump, "raising the water," stimulating the energy [Qi] flow. Chinese Qigong training such as the "soong exercises" increases Qi flow significantly. The kidney channel in Traditional Chinese Medicine is the water channel & the associated emotion is fear. A person who is very frightened, terrified is likely to pass water spontaneously. We are supposed to be 70% water. We are also an electromagnetic system generating & circulating Qi [bioenergy]. The circulation ceases at death. There are definite physical effects that occur during Qigong practise too just as there are observable phenonenon in Hypnosis & Dowsing. Traditional Chinese Medicine & the internal martial arts are all about balancing & improving Qi flow. The Water Diviner [Dowser] uses his whole mind, body & Spirit to "feel & know" where the water source is. My email address is jlindsaysmith@hotmail.com for anyone who is curious. I just made the connection myself a few days ago.

In a wider sense all of the above would probably fit quite nicely with hard science - electro-magnetism & nuclear physics. Anyone game to try to speculate on that?

a sort of unified theory .. including dowsing, daoism & traditional chinese medicine, hypnosis, pyschic phenomena, physics.. include some of the fringe stuff like levitation, spoon bending, spontaneous combustion, mind reading, extraordinary strength feats & the strange events reported in shows like "believe it or not." Of much more interest to many people than space exploration, repacement surgery & the raft of other human endeavors.
Running this discussion myself, it's a bit like keeping a diary! I hope some people can follow. Anyhow yesterday I visited a farmer friend, Ex South African... who is also a qualified electrician. He demonstrated how to find underground water pipes & electrical cables too. As well he showed how the rod turns when approaching a person... indicating an energy field. He gave me the rod to take home & practise. The rod is a length of number 8 fencing wire bent @ 90 degrees & held lightly in front of the chest in front of the solar plexus. Later I visited other friends, both originally from Finland. Turns out that "her" father was famous as a dowser in Finland so there was some discussion about his methods for finding water depth. Now how does all this relate to hypnosis? Applegate deals at length with the power of the subconscious to find water. He says the mind is like a radar. It is the same instinct that migrating birds & animals have. Waiqi & Qigong masters in China, elsewhere too now ..focus & project their energy using the "secret sword" & particular pointing technique.. sometimes at needles inserted into acupuncture points, sometimes without. The open palm is sometimes used also. Qigong & Waiqi masters & traditional acupuncture practitioners must do many years of daily training to keep their Qi [internal energy] at a high level. |

To bring this 'discussion' full circle I should also mention that the Finnish Dowser I mentioned in the last post used his fob watch to as a pendulum to "divine water." Many birds of prey circle overhead before diving to take their prey. We watched last night as the osprey & a sea eagle dived into the mango swamp to take flying foxes hanging in the trees in just on dusk.
