why are scripts important? Aren't they just text to read? do people read them to themselves or have someone else read them? I don't get it. |

Scripts are written in text for a Hypnosis Therapist to use to as a guide for specific issues during hypnosis sessions with a client. Most hypnosis professionals never read directly from a script - they use them as an outline and interject their own words. They tailor the approach to the specific client and having a script that has already been written by another professional can be very useful. Most Hypnotherapists can easily write their own scripts but this can be time consuming, so having a pre-written script in hand can come in pretty handy.
Scripts can also be used in Self Hypnosis for someone who is attempting to resolve a specific issue. They read it into a recording and then they would listen to it over and over. However, most people who know enough to do self-hypnosis could probably write their own script. Many people who do self-hypnosis learn it from a one on one session with a Hypnotist. Once you have been hypnotized, you can be programmed to allow yourself to go into the trace state anytime you want and when you are in that state you can give yourself helpful instructions to make changes in your life.

Actually I have found that my practice is more successful without the use of scripts. I teach my students to develop their own scripts during the pre-talk because the client knows what they need to succeed. A script does not provide the client with any value but it could provide the hypnotherapist a tool to learn to be more creative at times. You might find that a script allows you to expand your current imagination for the imagery but I would caution against using a script for a specific issue for every client. |

It takes all sorts of course, and this is just my opinion, but experience shows me that the use of a script is the lazy mans method of using hypnosis badly, or using it outside of one's skills. Knowledge of what is needed by the client, and a well developed imagination are prerequisits to good therapy, and if these exist, there is no need for scripts. Anything written is no better than using a tape to induce and apply therapy to the client, so if you are using scripts you are worth very little as a therapist, and your success rate will be very poor.... I will be happy to discuss this with anyone who feels I am being unreasonable, but doubt you can offer a good argument for scripts regardless of when and how you use them, since they admit to no differences between clients, or between problems being dealt with. My success rate by the way has never been lower than ninty eight percent, and since my retirement, and dealing only with research projects, it has been 100%. Without such imagination to work with, I would never have succeeded in becoming this successful. Scripts are part of training only, for use as a demonstration of the how to's of practise, and not as a means of application of therapy. |

A "Script" could be very flexible... It could just be a basic list of points to follow while you are entering the hypnotic state, if you are experienced. Beginners should probably stick to scripts word-for-word, though. |
