I have heard comments from some about Inductions. I have used progressive Relaxation for the most part and had good success but I am hearing from time to time to dump the old Progressive Relaxation and use the Dave Elman Induction. I believe it takes 4 to 5 minutes to complete and your client would even go deeper into hypnosis using it.
Anyone have any comments on this approach?
Maybe we could all share what each other do.
Thanks

I use a form of the Elman. Was taught progressive relaxation. Have used it only a few times. The Elman type of induction saves session time and is more consistent for depth and works for even analytical people and people with ADD.
It's just simple and works. I'll mix in other stuff depending on the client... eye fixation, or whatever.

Yes, I was thinking a new client would feel cheated because Elman was so quick and maybe they expected the progressive Relaxation induction.
What about a Stress client, would you go right to Elman or use Progressive Relaxation?

The clients I get that have had progressive relaxation in the past have mentioned they appreciate having more time to work on the issues.
Elman for sure. I approach stress as, first, behavioral and second reduction/management.
I'll only use a progressive relaxation if the client requests it. If the person is very skittish, even after a thorough pre-talk, I might start off with a few minutes of a progressive relaxation then merge into Elmaan.
I don't use a straight Elman. I mix it up, but keep to the basic premise.

Like others, I have had consistent success with the Elman induction. Also like others, I've tweaked it over the years, depending on a client's needs.
It may be old and it certainly isn't fancy. But you go with what works. |
