Hi,
Am new to this, although have been working as a psychiatric nurse for about 20 yrs.
How does hypnotising a child differ?
Anyone suggest any tricks of the trade?
Have a friend who wants me to hypnotise her 10 yr old son, wants to improve his concentration.
Seems a big gap in the market where I am, lots of kids needing confidence boosts, improved concentration and improved self image.
Thanks

Hello Andy,
Hypnotizing children differs in a few ways. They have a shorter attention span.
More likely to respond to suggestions when compared to adults.
Are pretty much already in a hypnotized state till 8 or 10 years old.
This means they can be both easier and more difficult than adults. Keep it simple and fun for them. Keep the sessions short or do a couple 'mini-sessions' in the same appointment time so they are able to stay focused and don't get bored. Keep the words/terminology simple. Don't spend too much time on deepening. Be SURE you get rapport.... Easier with kids than teens... Make sure you work on what THEY want to work on. If you're trying to work on what the parents want, and the child and parents have different priorities, you'll have trouble. If the kid doesn't want to be there or doesn't want to work on what you're trying to work on, they will either not cooperate at all or will play along and get zero results. You can be crafty and make goals the same... say the parents want the kid to have more confidence so he's less withdrawn, find the angle that will make that the kids goal as well... like see if the kid wants to play a sport or something.. you know?
Kids are fidgety, even if you're in the middle of your short hypnosis session and they're shifting around in the chair, scratching their nose, whatever, don't worry about it too much. |
